Problems with Avast!... HELP!!!

When I upgraded my computer about 4 months ago so that I could run Windows 8.1, I bought avast!

Worked fine until 3 or 4 days ago when I updated it... now I am flooded by spam, pop-ups and notices of all kinds apparently generated by avast! that make me feel like I prefer the regular spam.

Anyone know how to deal with this issue or is Norton, etc. the best solution?

Could you have updated with a corrupted/fake version?

I've had no problems with avast. Only emails I've gotten is a reminder when my subscription is about to expire.

if you remember your user name and all the other little details why don't you just do a fresh install of avast? After all you've paid for it. I think there is also a free version which from what I hear is quite adequate.

Its a little strange especially with a bought copy. You can download free malwarebytes , install it but don't let it it sit in the background but run a scan to see what it catches. I use it occasionally to see if the AV didn't catch something ..but I don't like it sitting "on" all the time.

First off I've never paid for any AV, ever! Just used whatever they gave free with any new PC at first, then switched to the free versions of Avast. Avast served me well. Only times I ever got any virus was when using McAfee which came with my first PC. Never liked McAfee.

Still have free Avast on all my windows PCs but seldom use them anymore since moving to Linux. However when I do venture into M$, mainly to update stuff, have noticed Avast is getting a bit obnoxious by wanting/pestering you to 'upgrade' to their 'better' so called paid versions. Avast never did this in the past. That said I still stick with the free Avast versions. Can't see paying for any AV since Linux is the main OS used now, with has better security than M$ ever had.

Since you paid for Avast try reinstalling it and see what happens.

Avast Free while good gives me a heart attack. You are watching some porn, put on your headphones and crank up the volume and then proceed to spank the monkey, then out of no where this loud female voice announces that your virus definitions just got updated and scares the shit out of you.
