Normally I don't talk about this stuff, but if I can't post here then where?

So I admit that I am curious to partially believing in psychics / ability to "see beyond". Though I have a strong scientific background, I also believe that there are things that cannot (yet?) be explained by pure science.

I learned of the Psychic Fair being held at the Exhibition (Queen Elizabeth Building) this weekend. Details are here:

http://www.caribphoto.com/psychic.htm

It's a small event - perhaps 60 - 70 booths and not all of them are psychics. Nonetheless I went in trying to maintain as open a mind as possible. After cruising the floor a few times, I felt inexplicably drawn to one particular booth. So I decided to go for it.

The psychic was originally from UK but now lives in Toronto. (UK accent is still there.) We sat down and I was asked for my name & something personal - keys, pen, watch etc. I gave up my watch which went into the psychic's hand and sat back. After a few seconds, the psychic began to talk.

I admit that I had some skeptisicm even at that point, but most of what was being said was in fact accurate. Keep in mind that at this point all I've given is my name and my watch. But the psychic started by saying "You live downtown but you're thinking of moving. I see your neighbourhood and it's currently close to ______." Correct! The discussion continued with a fairly accurate description of the industry in which I work and my current job. There was even an accurate discussion of my current company. I was told "You work here, but there's something about the west coast. The US west coast in fact. Somewhere south on the coast." My company's head office is near San Francisco. The psychic mentioned that I like travelling and seem to be going somewhere soon. (I'm off on a biz trip Sunday.)

There were many other things discussed as well. The entire session was tape recorded so I can review what was said later on. After the session was over I forked over $60 and went on my way.

Do I believe everything that was said? Not necessarily. Some of it was generic enough it could have been applicable to almost anything / anyone. But on the whole I'd have to say that much of the content was specific to me and quite accurate.

Overall an interesting experience. I think I will repeat some time.

The thing about psychic fairs...if they were REALLY psychic, they wouldn't have to run ads, they'd just KNOW where it was!

Did they tell your future or did you just live to fit what was told to you ? Its easy for someone to say something vague enough that you can always make it come true or relate it to your past if you try hard enough.

I know, the fortune telling stuff is not for all...

I know what you are saying.
In my case as mentioned, the things he foretold were very specific. For the skeptics, I am only relating my experience here, nothing else. And again, there are con's in the biz, and some of them scammers indeed are making pretty good money for what they blow out of their scheming bags.

Most of the ones I saw don't have or never had personal ad's. And definitely, if you want to try, don't go for those whom you saw on infomercials.

Here is another interesting one: there was this young dude in Toronto who would feel your vibe and then draw pictures on paper, and in turn, would tell your future based on what he drew. Dragons, castles, fire, unicorn... some goth and abstract stuff.
A friend of mine had a session with him, and I must confess, even I did laugh a bit at that particular process.

And no, I am not related to or involved with any psychic associations or professional bodies in any way.

a psychic's perspective

I have been working as a psychic now for the past year so am interested in this thread.
As I see it there is a lot of misunderstanding about psychics and the psychic arts. No one can tell your future. What a good psychic does is to recognise patterns and to extrapolate upon these patterns and make a good guess. Psychic training is training in the art of seeing.

When a good car mechanic "looks" at an engine he/she can often tell you remarkable things about your engine with little effort and could not really explain how it is done. This is not something mysterious. The mechanic has taken apart engines and looked so closely at the way they operate that he/she becomes in tune with how they operate. Diagnostics are done to confirm their "hit" on what is wrong with the car. Any of you who are really good at what you do will also use this facility. I have found that computer "nerds" are excellent "psychics" when it comes to working on computers.
They don't seem to think about what to do, they simply zero in on the problem and fix it if they can.

So what I do when I sit down with a client is to just tune into who this person is and stuff just seems to occur to me. I don't worry about if it right or wrong I just allow what is there to be said. If I worry about being in any way "right" it all stops. The trick for me was convincing myself that I would be able to make a living doing this. I am still not quite convinced though the last few months have seen me travelling half way around the world and I have yet to not have a place to stay or ever really gone hungry. My next stop is Thailand where I will be spending two months in Koh Samui giving readings and enjoying the other things Thailand has to offer.

I welcome any comments or questions.
