Okay, the Q-Tip company says the purpose of a Q-Tip isn't for cleaning out your ears... what the hell is it for then? I believe that's just their way of protecting themselves legally from idiots who burst their ear drum with it, but that they know their business is about cleaning ear wax out!

You are correct that they are not recommended for that and for that reason!! I also belive that 50% of their complaints are about them getting stuck in ears!!

Carefull with those things most people stick them in to far and can damage their ears. I use to use them often on my ears until I dated a nurse who convinced me otherwise. Now I use a tissue on the end of my finger to clean my ears.

Ask a doctor...I've heard of people getting bad infection from q-tips

Don't believe me ask a nurse of MD

I do believe they are used for make-up as well.
Most people still use them to clean their ears.

My friend the doctor says that they jus jam wax in further. Tells me about people who get wax impacted in their ears so bad that they have to flush it out with a syringe. Or have to get sent to an ENT speialist to get it out. No thanks. Have never used them to clean my ears and mine are so clean you could eat off them..

I use em for just about everything:

Touchups on paint jobs,
Cleaning the corners around the bathroom faucet,
Dip em in solvent and they are great for degreasing small parts, (carbs too!)

When you stick a Q-tip in your ea canal you are basically asking to become deaf over time. Not only can it lead to infection, but you are also removing valuable hairs that are necessary for the ear to function properly.

I can tell you first hand your doctor friend is right.

I agree they can be damaging to the ears, but would hate it if they stopped making them. They are handy for getting into lots of tight places around the house. Anything with little tiny cracks that you cannot go spraying windex on.

Most doctors will tel you not to use qtips, it pushes the wax in to ear instead of cleaning it.
