I wonder if anyone can help me with this. I plan to see a doctor but was hoping to get some insight from the community before doing so.

Please don't laugh but my rectum area has become quite itchy. Sometimes the itch is uncontrollable and I find myself scratchy for a couple of minutes. There is no consistency in terms of when it itches, though generally towards the end of day and in the morning when I wake up.

I wonder if this is STD related or could be because of dryness of the skin around that area? I had wondered about soaps and potential allergic reaction but this doesn't seem to be the case.

I'm pretty anal (no pun intended) about cleaning that area so perhaps I've over done it and it is too dry. Perhaps I need to just use water and no soap?

Again, I plan on seeing a doctor but any insight would be helpful.

P.S. What is crab and is itchiness a sign?

Really Retired.....REALLY!
Maybe you have worms..............

If you had crabs you wouldn't be itchy just aorund your anus, you would likely be itchy around the whole area, primarily anywhere there is hair. You would also be able to see little brownish coloured eggs along the hairline. I highly doubt you have crabs.

Could be hemorrhiods too.

It could also be herpes but that would give you a tingling sensation.

I suggest using a glycerin soap or Ivory when washing; scented soap will bother you.

Here's an Anal(ogy)!

Me too sometimes!
The area around the rectum has a concentration of sweat glands!
Depending on what one chooses to wear as an undergarment has a direct effect on how active the sweat glands become!
Nylon panties plus pantyhose are bound to create activity in that area for woman! Even at night, with no such constrictions, sweat may be experienced just from how you choose to repose. If you sleep in an open splayed position, the sweat glands would be least active. If, however, you are tight cheeked, sweat will accumulate in that area!
Sweat will cause itching! It's natural! Why do we see so many people picking at their asses? A wedgie? Not always! They're dying to scratch their itchy anus!
If you are sensitive to certain soaps, this can definitely add to the discomfort!
There are products on the market to ease the condition, ie; Gold Bond Powder! The only problem is that it has a rather antiseptic smell! They have come out with a spray, but I have yet to test it!
Probably the best remedy, as I have found, is one of constant hygene with the use of a non irritant, non perfumed soap such as glycerine soap!
You also may want to try bathing with a friend! There is nothing so soothing as having your itch scratched for you!
