You nailed it on the head
This summer was my proudest moment as a Canadian. I was at the Gay pride parade on Bank st. Smoking a doob (which an RCMP officer actually lit for me) and revelling in the love that was permeating the crowd over the recent ruling of same-sex marriages. I was proud to live in a society that, even for a brief moment, felt absolutely free.
Now it's 5months later and I've come down off of my cloud. My eyes are open and there are many things about canada that make me wonder how different we really are from our american neighbours.
Here are the things that bother me:
*The cost of living has risen dramatically, yet wages have barely increased. Minimum wage is still disgusting low and many families can barely afford christmas
*the federal government can spend $2500 of taxpayers money on a meal at Henri Burger and expense it as a "business lunch" when there are single mothers who can't afford daycare and therefore can't afford to get a job in order to properly take care of their families.
*the municipal government has allowed rent to increase to the point that 4 people are living in a 2bd apartment
*The provincial government has dropped the ball on proper healthcare and there aren't enough GP's to go around. Many people have been going to "clinics" in order to receive subpar health care (I was recently told that a severe asthma attack was merely my reaction to a "sprained neck muscle")
*The municipal government is spending tons of money moving their offices around the city 3, sometimes 4 times when that money could be better used to offset the cost of oh, say.. homeowners property taxes.
*The federal government denying the rights of human beings who reside in our country and using the "they're a terrorist or have ties to terrorism" excuse
Shit, I can't continue this rant. It's *uc*ing christmas.
Bah humbug and happy new year.
