from what I hear the Centrino battery life is just as bad even though they say it lasts longer..I'd go for the P4 2.2

I am a Centrino convert... I get 5 hours of real battery life from mine... I also think for most users, CPU power is generally not that critical compared to disk/network performance (and not having to plug the damn thing in .

ditto i use both a p4 and a centrino and the centrino is far better and the battery life is amazing it eclipses the p4 by about 2 hrs.
