Before I go taking everything apart...

Im trying to reduce clutter at home... I was thinking of combining my PC to my TV. I have a 46inch Sharpe Aquous with HDMI ports and an HP desktop with blue ray capability and an HDMI port... is it as simple as just plugging the HDMI cord from the pc to the tv? will I get sound or will I need to get a second cable?

any help would be mucho appreciated!

sorry for the late reply, I usually see these posts sooner.

There should be no problem hooking your pc up to your tv via HDMI. I have done the same as long as your video card supports HDMI. I actually had to get a DVI - HDMI conversion cable but it works fine. (awesome in fact).

Yes, you'll need to connect your sound card to your tv via RCA cables. There should be an audio out on the sound card (single phono plug) and you'll have to get a Y connector to go into this jack then attach the RCA plugs to this. I bought a bunch at the dollar store instead of paying $20.00 for one cable I paid $10.00 for a basket full. They are all gold plated and I don't notice any detraction in sound quality. You shouldn't either since you're just using your TV speakers.

If you have a home theatre amp you can do the same but plug the rca plugs into a setting like phono or cd or some other piece that you don't have hooked to it. Then when you want to listen to your pc, you just select that setting.

The HDMI wire carries both sound and audio. You should be OK!
But rarely does a pc video card carry sound.......the ONLY time this would work is if the mobo was an hdmi motherboard with onboard sound and video.

Resolution and refresh rate will have to be set so they match the capabilities of the display or you will just see garbage. Most PC'c have DVI as the main graphics interface so you will most likely have to get the DVI-HDMI connector/cable. Sound is not part of DVI so you will have to pass that seperatly. If you have a decent sound card with the right connections(fibre/coax) it is possible to send Dolby Digital to a receiver if it is a home theater application.
