Well..I'm a die hard Leafs fan...but after watching a bit on TSN tonight...I might have to cheer for the Sens for 3 year old Elgin that died of cancer. If you want a story to tug at your heart strings go to the TSN website at http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/ scroll down half the page and look for the pic "Sens biggest little fan". After watching this video..you'll want to hug your kids and give them a big old kiss!:(

I saw that too, heartbreaking. I'm not a big Sens fan - can't stand Alfy, Heatley and Bryan "the lisp" Murray. But I'm still cheering for them.

I wish that the series had started on Saturday night.

Damn USA networks.
Apparently the building in Anaheim wasn't available all weekend due to an ice show.

Season 'ant long enough already for ya Garry?
Here's on rule change even I could support:

If you can't host Game 1 of the Finals in a reasonable time frame, then you forfeit home ice advantage to the other conference!

Be careful what you wish for Leaf fans. Wanting Ottawa to win now may seem like the right thing to do for Canada BUT do you think Sens fans will ever let you forget if they win. They will rub that salt into the wounds of Leaf Nation forever. Go Ducks!!!!

Maybe, just maybe, if the Sens win it all, it will motivate the jerks who run the Maple Laffs to get off their duffs, stop counting the money, and get some initiative to put a good hockey team on the ice. Somehow I doubt it.

Exactly. Well, the win itself won't do anything to motivate them, but if the taunting and humiliation from Senator fans causes enough Leaf fans to stop filling MLE pockets indiscriminately, that might motivate a change in the management culture.

This is the only reason why MLSE would never change their methods. Why spend tons more money on better talent/free agents when you have suckers filling the seats everynight. Unfortunately, I don't think we'll ever see a change of heart.

Look at JFJ for example. I think any other team in the NHL who was serious about wanting to win the Stanley Cup would have canned him after a second season of ineptitude. Instead, they are going to keep the clown around for another year. So many things wrong in Leaf Land.

I can't believe this is even up for discussion. Everyone I know from different countries is very confused by this issue. There is no doubt in their minds that you're supposed to cheer for whichever club is left from your own country.

The type of debate that Canadians are having with themselves about which team to cheer for, you would think that Toronto and Ottawa are separate ethnic or religious entities on the verge of war.

But no such circumstances exist. Not even the minor regional distinctions that would apply to Quebec or Alberta.

So what's the problem? You cheer for the Canadaian team to win, period! If for no better reason, than just because the US-obsessed execs at NHL headquarters won't like it.

Our God who art in Scotiabank Palace, Senators be thy name.

Thy puck come, Thy save be done in the air as it is on ice.

Give us this day our Stanley Cup and forgive us our slashing,

As we send out Neil for those who slash against us.

And lead us not into golfing, but deliver us from injury.

For the Senators are the team, the power and the glory,

For ever and ever,

Amen…

Not in a million years. Not with the OTP in charge and idiots willing to pay obscene amounts of money for tickets and jerseys. The Cubs will win the World Series before the Leafs ever win a Stanley Cup.

11 Canadians on the Ottawa roster

15 Canadians play for Anaheim's Stanley Cup Lineup roster

and yet again, another US team has more Canadians...

That small statistical difference means nothing except to some rednecks, which I guess is where all the Ottawa hating really comes from.

To the common hockey fan in Boston, Tampa or anywhere else in the world, Ottawa is Canada and Aneheim is USA, end of story. Just like Chelsea is England and Barcelona is Spain.

But the more far reaching issue is what is represented by the Ducks - a team who's Stanley Cup final series plays second fidle in their own building - it would be a shame for such a franchise to win it.

On the other hand, a champion form Ottawa of all places would probably get NBC out of the picture alltogether next year, so at least there won't be any need to cater to the scheduling demands since they're not worth any money to the league anyway.

If the NHL can see a competitive hockey team in Ontario is possible, maybe they will allow another team. :D

Unlikely but one can dream.

good game tonight, still not going to cheer for Ottawa as I am a leafs fan, yeah I know they will likely never win in my lifetime but I still follow them. AS for cheering for Ottawa just cause they are Canadian, I am pretty sure most Ottawa fans would not cheer for Toronto if the situation was reversed, personally I just want to see a good series and I do not care which team wins. For those that think that this is the onl situation where people are not cheering for their countries team in a final then I am sure they are mistaken. Take the champions League final in Europe last week, do you really think that EVerton fans were cheering for Liverpool just cause they were English, and do you think Inter fans were cheering for AC. In both those situations the teams are from the same city basically and they still are not cheering for the team from their country. World championships and Olympics are the only times I cheer for the Canadian team.
