Over the last 20 years, they have not been able to draft one superstar, franchise player despite high pics in so many losing seasons (Clark wasn't a superstar)....EVERY other NHL team HAS over that time span...

They are one of only a handful of teams who are actually making a shit load of money in the NHL (less incentive to win versus the actual work involved to get there)

This city supports Leaf hockey way to much...over 1 million Saturday viewing audience in both good times and bad plus over 99.5% renewal success rate for season ticket holders (best % in any pro North American sport)

All excellent points which is why I hate the Leafs. I dont actually hate the team or the players but the owners and management.

The fans of Toronto are being played for suckers and for this reason I dont support the Leafs.
Only when people stop going to games will they be forced to build a winner.
Untill then you'll get the same old recycled garbage.

Since 1967 every other team has made the cup finals except for The Leafs.

Why would the ownership put on a better product? If the consumers are satisfied with the garbage on the ice then, management doesn't have to sign or develop anybody. Management knows exactly what they're doing, it's the fans who should stop going to the games and buying all the merchandise who should clue in.

Interesting comments you make and which I agree with 1000%. This is my postion on the Leafs. To me its interesting to see that nobody has blasted you for that, but others on this board are so quick to kick me in my balls when I have said the very same exact thing.

If the lockout wasn't on, we'd be debating and discussing last night's Toronto at Ottawa game.

It's a regular season game. Sens more often then not don't turtle during this time. Playoffs is a different matter. :(

What's up with everyone. I'm a major Leafs fan, but have come to the realization that the Leafs are in the same stratosphere as the other BIG BUSINESS sports franchises. Yankees, Manchester United and Real Madrid, they are huge money makers. The others spend the money to win championships, however the Leafs don't spend wisely. I believe the Leafs have been on the top, or very near the top of free agent spending in the NHL. Once again they don't spend wisely or back off because of the length of a contract a player is looking for which is just plain sad on the part of the Leafs. I will continue to support them which a true fan should do, but yes a CUP in Toronto may be a ways off.....

I think soccer is a bad example, not a bad example but its different economicaly....in the 90s when Madrid and ManU racked up all those championships/european cups/league cups, generally they were the only teams that could spend so freely and "buy" championships...but now more teams are spending money, prime example being Chelsea...though we all know how signing guys left and right and center can lead to downfall...case in point, Leeds!

sorry to get off track

and the Leafs will win one day, law of averages baby! :D

To win a championship in hockey under the present format used over the years a team needs to spend wisely but also draft well and develop the talent. If you just try to buy a championship the league has a couple of teams who are spend crazy (Toronto & NYR ) and haven't got anything to show for it.

Ouch! Goes to show how bad Toronto's scouting has been over the past couple of decades.
