are you stuck on ceramic? There's thousands of possibilities from tumbled marble to porcelain to other natural stone.....

Olympia Tile on Lawrence has thousands of types and you could try Lowe's Home Depot or Rona.

There's almost as many tile stores as there are dollar stores.....

If you're downtown, you can try New Canadians Home Hardware at Dupont and Shaw. They have an excellant selection (at the tile shop out front, not in the store proper).......

As t boy says, Olympia Tile.

But they are expensive. But they are also Jews, so they were born to negotiate. If you're a Jew too, you can get the Jewish discount (seriously - I've heard 50%). If you have a buddy who's a contractor and has an account there (I do) they will come 40% off of list.

If you know someone who is an architect or engineer, they will come off list by 30%. (You could also try just faking that you are an architect or engineer.) I don't know how serious they get about checking up on your story. In my case, my Contractor friend really does have an account with them, so I go there, buy the tiles under his name (they do call him up in front of me), then I pay for it with my own visa card so I don't have the issue of paying him back.

My point is that list price is very variable at Olympia.

Ya you would be the guy to ask. I want a mirror backsplash for my kitchen. Any ideas about how and where to go to get this done.

WHOA THERE GUY!!!

I'm a Jew who both STRONGLY RESENTS YOUR IMPLICATIONS, and will go in to "negotiate" for the Goy. I'll give any Goy I negotiate for half the discount, and pocket the other half as any good negotiating Jew would do. I think "Jew" is still a verb, isn't it?
Don't get your knickers in a knot. The fact of the matter is that being Jewish will get you a discount at Olympia if you play your cards right. (I personally don't care how Reichmanns operate their business as it is a private company.)

BTW, You'll keep half the discount eh? That's very kind of you. I would give it all to my friend if I was negotiating on his behalf.

I expect to see occasional statements of anti-semitism, racism, and ignorance on terb, but I would have bet $1000 that I wouldn't have found one in a thread about tiles.

Boy, was I wrong !

I was refering to Olympia tile. The fact of the matter is that they do negotiate. It has nothing to do with anti semitism.

So that was just a bonus??

You may want to apologize.

Thanks everyone, sorry this has taken a turn for the worse.

Getting back to the question at hand.... I should have mentioned I live in Mississauga, so any recommendations in this area ( Mississauga or Oakville ), would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again everyone!

Unlike paint colours that shade from one to another so you can zero in, every tile's a unique thing, even when the 'pattern' is meant to suppress the differences—as in the 4x4 classic hospital style Maple Leaf pattern from Olympia—so picking a fave is a bit like picking your favourite photograph. How many options are you prepared to look at? How many can you look at before you're the one glazed over? How long do you have before you must make that choice? How much do you Monday morning quarterback yourself after you choose?

And there's cost to consider, which is not always just a sq.ft. multiplier, but you should know what that footage is, plus 5-10% before you shop. Some patterns can force more waste than others. And some must be special-ordered.

These are all reasons why you should give yourself lots of time to checkout lots of places, or be smart and put yourself in the hands of a designer (not necessarily a pro) who does that for you.

I've bought from Peel Tile before. They have some nice stuff and a large showroom.
