Recommendations for a Gun Club amd or Shooting Range in the GTA?

Hi,

I've decided to take up shooting as a new hobby and will be going for my formal training in September with the intention of getting my Restricted PAL licence. Once I'm cleared to purchase a gun, I'm thinking of getting a Sig Sauer P320 in 9mm. Any recommendations on a Gun Club or Shooting Range in the GTA? I've been going to Target Spots Canada in Gormley, but they can be very busy some days. Any thoughts?

I like the feel of the Sig and with the ability to purchase full conversion kits to change out the guts of the gun from a 9mm to a 45ACP, is a bonus.

Thanks...

Target Sports is pretty good, the one in Burlington (can't remember the name) is also ok but I think the waiting list at Target Sports is a lot shorter. They've just upgraded their range too, so it's a good time - plus they have member's only hours so it's not as hard to get in there. But until you have your PAL, there's no point in joining.

I'm partial to the Glock .40 cal myself, I like the balance better and I don't really love 9mm pistols. Not for any particular reason, just personal preference.

Welcome to the (other) hobby!

You wouldn't believe there's a gun club in that area, but it's there, well hidden I might add.

Target sports is a joke of a club. Ridiculous fees and most of the time you have walk ins (gangster wannabes) in there thinking that they're in a rap video. If you're cool with irresponsible people next to you with a loaded firearm then this is the place to be.

As for the handgun get yourself a .22 to start off with. Lost count of the amount of times ive seen noobs with 9mm show up and not be able to control the firearm.

I was at the Burlington club a few years ago before a couple of long guns became prohibited -friend owns them not me-.
So we shot for an hour or so and saw some idiot come in with Tac lights on his 9mm (he really thought he was badass LOL), a shotgun with a Tac light as well (flinched like crazy on the recoil), all show, no substance and on his 45 as well. Very nice showy cases, big guns, like excessive make-up on a girl, too much. It was more fun to see how little control he and his friends had.

It was really a big joke for them, kid had money for sure, but that's all he had.

South Peel/Lakeshore, never seen or heard of any punks coming in, just the odd story where some guy would show up and talk stupid crap.

Only open Saturday daytime (at least that was true a few years ago).
The Lakeshore club has actually 5 clubs at that particular range, each come in on a different night.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it has 5 clubs? Maybe 4?

That's certainly possible. When i was researching clubs, it was hard to get any info. At the time the club(s) had no Internet presence and when I called, no-one returned the calls. I drove down during the day to have a look and the place was closed and a bit run down. It's a historic site, so perhaps they aren't in a position to make major changes to the facilities, but I'm guessing about this.

I've been going there as a guest for a few years on and off, I just can't remember the specific number of clubs at that particular site, minimum 4 definitely, just thought it was 5. Nothing important, just curious on the number.
It's a simple but nice club, if there's a word for it, I'd say cozy. They recently revamped the place quite a bit from a few years ago.

Target has just re-aligned the gun club there, now called Calibre shooting club. Membership fees are alot less. Only busy times seem to be weekends, but its members only from 9-11. I have the ability to go during daytime during the week, and never had to wait.

Good Luck the "good samaritans" of the adjacent neighbourhoods are fighting to extinguish gun clubs and that is why there is no internet presence and that is why there are so few week days open anymore. The squeeze is on to relegate it to just weekends and then it will be just Sundays. I saw this happen with a skeet facility that was grooming a 16 year old for the Olympics. You would think the country would be happy to have a potential Canadiaon Olympian being able to practice but no- they are too close minded about the noise.

I didn't know about all these clubs. It's something I'd like to get into, but I'd prefer to know somebody who's a member already before I partake.

I've only gone to Target Sports as its a straight run up the 404 or Woodbine to me, instead of going across town on the 401. As for using a 9mm, that's for cost of ammunition. I'm partial to a Sig Sauer for the quality of construction, features and that you have the ability to change out frames and caliber from a 9mm to 357, 40mm and 45ACP without having to buy a new gun. Just get the conversion kit from Sig for half the price. Practice with a 9mm, mod the trigger if you like, and swap out the barrel for a 45ACP to get a bigger Boom!

.22LR costs even less; when you're paying for your own ammo, you learn to love .22 LR. Sig has a conversion kit, you should pick it up with your 9, to get more trigger time. The Grange (the old Target Sports club) wasn't bad when I was a member. Like anywhere in Ontario, each club will have its own flavour of bullshit to deal with. I went with geographic convenience and a short waiting list. I only had 6 probationary shoots as opposed to the 12 I've heard of in other places.
