just a heads up to let everyone know that redlight cameras have been installed at certain intersections around the city.

I'm not 100% sure if this is true or just a joke . but for now I'll keep an eye out for those things .

if anyone else has heard this from a reliable source , please post to let everyone know tht it is in fact real.

I also heard that they're thinking of bringing back photo radar . anyone have any news on that ?

This debate again!!!

Solution's simple -

1) Don't want a ticket, don't run the light.
2) Know who's driving your car at all times

. . . or buy the bloddy spray that blocks your plate number!!

at present there are only ten of the cameras rotating through the listed intersections. There may or may not be one in any given box.

Buses, and L.E. vehicals are supposed to be ticketed as well but since its L.E. that goes through the pictures ...........

Street cares come under the railways act and legally don't have to stop at traffic lights and stoip signs.

Now this stuff really burns my ass (no I didn't use it improperly).

Do the people who buy it plan on running red lights?

Personally, I don't care for them. I've been caught already by one on the Hamilton Mountain.
Which one? Upper James or Upper Sherman? My guess is Upper Sherman.... ;)

First, it and photo radar are simple money makers. Police don't seem to care how easy their job can be replaced. Plus they will never have a ticket stick themselves.
I disagree. Redlight cameras are good because people running a red light are statistically a high risk group fo traffic fatalities, unlike speeders (as in people purely speeding and not breaking other laws at the same time) who statistically are very low. They also are not simple moneymakers because if they were, they would have cameras at all locations instead of rotating them around. The redlight camera stands are a visual deterrent at high risk intersections that are proven to improve safety through that deterrence. Finally, your point about the police never getting a ticket themselves just tells me the system should be processed by a civilian agency instead, which is easily done if voters were to lobby strongly for it. Personally, I think the SIU should be expanded into an agency that actively patrols for police breaking any laws (traffic or otherwise) in a bid to end the double standard that robs the police of any credibility with most citizens.

I tend to race a yellow.. heince sometimes red. But I feel the only possible accident is the cars in the left turning lane, and they MUST wait for the intersection to be clear before moving. But hey, I'm the same one who thinks to leave massage parlors and escorts alone as its a victimless crime.
Running a red is by *no* means a victimless crime, no matter how good looking you are. God forbid the day you blow through a red in a hurry and some little kid steps into the intersection from behind a telephone pole as the walk signal comes on for him/her. Shame on you, Kathleen.....accidents are not intentional but that is the reason why there is a law.

Otherwise, my gripes for traffic enforcement are the same: driving in the passing lane, failure to signal, failure to come to a complete stop (although I'm confused why the last one bugs you when you admit running red lights occasionally yourself). I would add to the list people who turn from a driving lane instead of using the turning lane provided (they've been really pissing me off lately).

I don`t worry about running the red lights , what I worry about is getting stuck a the middle of an intersection trying to make a left hand turn.

I don't try running reds. I try to make every effort at going through on a yellow. Seldom I hit it as a true red.

Kathleen,

Better re-think your driving habits. I have gotten a ticket for running a yellow. Even when the bitch cop (yes, I know I am being petty only because I got a ticket) got to my window I told her "it was yellow when I entered the intersection".

Boy was I suprised. Got slapped with a ticket for around $200 for "amber light fail to stop". After some checking into the HTA (Highway Traffic Act) I found this little passage...

****************
Every driver approaching a traffic control signal showing a circular amber indication and facing the indication shall stop his or her vehicle if he or she can do so safely, otherwise he or she may proceed with caution. R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8, s. 144 (15).
****************

The ending to my story... cop didn't show up to court, several of her cases which had been scheduled the same day were dismissed. Judge was super pissed.

or someone who just got off a bus and is racing across the street against a 'Do not walk sign' to catch another bus.
Yes, they are wrong for doing it, but you won't get much sympathy from the cops if you kill one of them.

it's no joke, and it's a good thing

don't be cautious around red lights to avoid getting a ticket; be cautious around red lights to avoid killing yourself!
I've always thought that the worst that could happen is that I'd kill someone else; especially a kid.

Be careful out there! The life you take may not be your own!

Bubbie - I do just as that said. I can't stop safely, so go through with caution.
I must have misunderstood where you said...

"I don't try running reds. I try to make every effort at going through on a yellow. Seldom I hit it as a true red. "

Particularly the phrase "I try to make every effort at going through on a yellow" (emphasis mine) made me believe that you indeed try to run the yellow.

I was only offering a bit of friendly advice to save you the time off of your life to attend court, etc...
