Read this every day about thugs assaulting retail clerks.
If a couple of these hoodlums get shot in the head that will send a message to the rest.
Sad that people cannot earn a living without being intimidated or risking their lives.

Almost every store now has a private security guard but I think they are unarmed.

I know for a fact that employees at the Beer Store have been told not to confront any crooks because of the risk of assault.

Same at the LCBO. The issue is liability. If they attempt to stop the thief, they could be charged if the person is hurt, or the store could be sued. And if the employee is injured, the store could also be sued. And, I think there could be some issues with health and safety legislation.

Also, when I worked retail, we were told to let the manager know if there was theft. And you had to be 100% certain, because if you mistakenly accuse someone of theft when they didn't do anything, the store could be sued...

When I was a kid both the LCBO and Brewers Retail had all their product behind the counter. Problem solved.

Sadly with our legal system, the retail store worker will be charged eventhough it was in self defence and the the criminal will receive a slap on the wrist if anything.

If the person in the article was shoved so hard did he get in the way of the robbery? Employees need to realized, let the robbers rob, the store is insured. No reason to get hurt, back away and let it happen. We don’t own guns, security guards can’t touch the robbers but block the door, report and need to call the police. Why not just give these idiots a longer sentence or ship them off to Yukon to fend to come back
