which R do you prefer, Ryan or Rick ? I'll take Rick only for being a younger player and should fit wonderfully in the current lineup along with coach (R)on. (R)ight !!
Personally, I'd rather see Getzlaf as I believe he is a better all-round player. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Getzlaf is a much better skater and with the speed of the current game in general and the uptempo pace of the Leafs game in particular he would be a better fit. I also get the impression Nash is more one dimensional, i.e. all offense. I'd probably also take Ryan over Nash.

The other factor is that with Burke's history with Anaheim, a trade may be more likely with them.

Although the Ontario born Nash would be a factor I still take Getzlaf in a heartbeat. He is the true number one center the Leafs covet.

Why wouldn't it happen? Nash feeding Kessel and Lupul would be one the deadliest lines in the NHL.

Nash commands a high salary and Columbus cannot keep up with the market. Nash would be nuts to reject a large commerical market in Toronto. It's all about money in the game of hockey.

There are several factors preventing this from happening, none of which cannot be fixed I will admit.
First, his salary would not be easy to fit under the Leafs cap, especially during the season. Columbus will want to reduce their cap so will not take large salary back. They would be looking for young, cheap players or draft picks.
Second, as far as the Leafs go it is likely another team can give more back to the Jackets then what Toronto can offer(but, yes there is that affordability thing. The Leafs CAN afford him).
Third, Columbus is hosting the All-Star game next season.

Would you trade Nash for Kessel put an American Hockey star in the U.S and put a Canadian hockey star back in Canada . I don't follow Hockey but just a suggestion .

I have a stance where I do prefer Canadian players for the Leafs, especially a guy like Nash who is from the GTA and was a Leaf fan as a kid. However, it sometimes happens that I come to like the foreign players on the Leafs and Kessel is one of those.
A Kessel for Nash trade is more of a lateral move then a step forward. All it would really do is increase the Leafs salary cap.

Ryan Getzlaf -born May 10, 1985
Rick Nash -born June 16, 1984

Just saying..

Although I still prefer Getzlaf(or some other big number center) I am beginning to wonder if this perceived Nash to the Leafs deal will happen. I am allowing(?) it to creep into my head that maybe, just maybe, Burke and Columbus are just waiting an extra week or so to let the Nash salary wind down to a more manageable number for a mid-season trade.

Could that be it ?

Think of it for a minute.
Burke likes to make a big trade. The Nash trade talk has seemed to die down, yet he has not caught fire and been taken off the market, nor has Columbus started to win.

The way the Leafs are playing any trade will do and next time do not give a raise to Wilson during the regular season until he reaches the playoffs.

NASH...the #1 center man.

Rick Nash is NOT a center, he's a winger, and getting the overrated Nash wouldn't solve the Leafs needs!
