Ripping DVDs

Is anybody familiar with any software that will rip a DVD to either AVI or MP4 format? I need something that will handle 'encrypted' DVDs that I bought in North America so I can convert my collection to make it portable. Ideally I'd like free software but will pay for something that actually works.

in terms of disabling the encryption try slysoft AnyDVD. For the ripping Handbreak is great software and free.

Thanks for the hint. I already had Handbreak. The Slysoft AnyDVD removed the protection as promised and allowed Handbreak to do the job for me.

Handbreak has worked well for my DVD collection.

Handbreak works great, but it needs the addition of AnyDVD to get past encrypted disks. The combination of the two worked really well.

Most of the software used are free.

I use DVD Decrypter to get past the encryption and Handbrake to format for MP4 for the iTouch. This combo works well.
