Road construction question.

I noted Mississauga Rd is being built north of Queen street. Being made quite a bit wider....I saw something and did not know what it was.

On the west side , they have a gravel bed down over maybe two or three lanes. Lying roughly where the west curb will be is about a 8 inch metal tube..running several hundred feet. It appears capped at each end.

Along it's length every few feet there is about a 2 inch pipe tied to the 8 inch pipe. These seem to be regular rubber hoses that appear To come off and twist down into the ground below grade. Dozens of them along the length of the 8 inch metal pipe.

Are they pressure testing? Injecting? Excavating? I could not for the life of me figure out why this pipe was laying exposed with all these small pipes coming off into the ground?

Anyone know?

I think water is involved. But this is in the stix .. No houses around.

It's dewatering, probably clay soils and they need to establish a road base

So they are sucking water to the surface? Then moving it along the 8nch pipe?

Sounds good..although the road base in place sits on pretty high ground...are they down a long way to drain? Like 8. Or 10 feet down?
