Ya know, it's funny. My perception was that he's guilty. And that seems to be the sentiment of a lot of people. But really, how do we know? The only evidence we've heard are the soundbites on TV, on the radio, or in newspapers. That's nowhere near a complete picture. Which really makes me question the role of the media in that it has coloured the general population (or at least a sizeable portion of it) to believe a man is guilty despite the fact that the 12 jurors who saw the most complete picture of the evidence acquitted him. Maybe he is guilty but the prosecution just couldn't prove it. But I think there isn't one person on this board or at the water cooler who wouldn't be hardpressed to present a credible argument why he is guilty, other than the media told me so.

Makes me rethink things...

Great plot for a soap opera but it doesn't quite work that way.
The prosecutors didn't have a strong or credable case and the
defense team was able to raise the issue of 'reasonable doubt'.

Sorry I think you are wrong it does matter who you kill . Bonnie never had any sympathy and it is easier to have " reasonable doubt " if the victim is painted as an evil person which she was. It's not the evidnce that decides it's the jury.

It's interesting that the jury actually had to consider three charges. On the first and third they found him guilty, while on the second the jury told the judge they were deadlocked. The judge didn't want to know which way they were deadlocked but asked for the number. Turned out it was 11-1.

So, the charges he was found not guilty on were, I think, murder and conspiracy to commit murder. What was the third chage?

Juries are made up of people who may not be the sharpest minds on the planet , the fact that a jury either acquits or finds guilty really does not prove anything. A very persuasive jurist can convince others to vote with them.
I agree not one of us can present irrefutable evidence that he is guilty but that is the case in most trials . Quite often your gut feeling is correct , his story just did not sound plausible, I left for 2 minutes because I forgot my gun.
This is however not proof but does raise suspicions.

C'mon booboo, I think you're reaching a bit. Certainly Nicole Simpson was loved and generated much sympathy, and OJ got away with it anyway. It's not the evidence that decides, it's the money to be able buy high powered lawyers to bury whatever the state presents, and confuse the jury as to the relavent facts as best they can.

With all respect if we were on a jury we would be deadlocked.

You forget OJ was idolized ,a football hero . Nicole was painted as a drug addict .
I don't think any amount of high priced lawyers would have gotten Scott off or Scott free so to speak.
I still say who you murder is considered by the jury maybe subconsciously
in the face of irrefutable evidence.

That first statement is alarming, to say the least. Whether it's true or not, our legal system is based on a jury of our peers. If we're just going to say "Well, we've heard your decision but you're wrong so we won't accept it" then what the hell's the point of having trials? Why not just say public opinion (based in a fraction of the facts & evidence) thinks you're guilty so guilty it is. I would damn well expect a very persuasive jurist to sway others; that's the whole point of having a jury. If you go in with an opinion and won't change it no matter what anyone says, then you shouldn't be a jurist in the first place.

Gut feelings are notoriously wrong. We all love to believe the myth that we truly "know" deep down inside but, sorry, that's a load of hooey. We base that feeling on whatever evidence we first hear, not the totality of evidence. If I show you a picture of an old man and tell you he was seen loitering around school yards where children were later molested (a lie), your "gut feeling" will more often than not tell you he did it.

I don't doubt that you couldn't provide irrefutable proof that he's guilty. But I didn't ask for that either. I think you'd be hard pressed to present the facts of the case beyond that he was away from the car when she was shot. That's nowhere near enough evidence to convict someone, gut feeling or not. There are far too many innocent people in prison (or executed) b/c of gut feelings and that is NOT what out justice system is based on.

Can you imagine explaining to a wrongfully convicted man who had been rotting in prison for 25 years that you convicted him b/c your "gut feeling" told you he was guilty? You wouldn't even be giving an explanation. You might as well say "God told you to convict."

My point is that, when we say we think someone is guilty, what we should really be saying is "Based on the very limited information I have, I think he is guilty/not guilty". And not somehow think that our opinions are in any way relevant, b/c they're not. It's the jury's job to convict - not ours. And if the jury finds a person innocent, as difficult as it may be, I think we should learn to accept it.

First of all I don't think you understand what I mean by a gut feeling , when I saw I think it was Susan Anderson wailing about how some black men kidnapped her kids and she really drowned them I had the GUT feeling that she was lying as my GUT feeling told me her tears were phony.
I did not say I would convict because of a gut feeling. In the real world a very good talker might be so forceful as to intimidate a person to change his vote , if you don't believe this happens then you are naive.
If you look at your statement you will see that you have proven my point , there are hundreds of people who are in jail though innocent in spite of our jury system. I will state again juries are not picked for their intelligence and I hope I NEVER HAVE TO RELY ON THEM. I take issue with your last statement based on limited information you should never find someone guilty.
By the way if you believe in the legal system it was the legal sytem that resulted in Blake going to trial which means they thought they had enough evidence wrongly or rightly so NO I don't have the evidence they did.
