I believe rogers sends the monthly bill ahead of time so you are actually paying upfront for the upcoming month before you use the service.

Your a sucker if you pay for cable. Pay 200 for a free to air reciever and get free cable. You can also get cheaper dsl rates by shopping around.

More precisely it's called an oligopoly, and I can't get over that.

Yeah, they should charge in the reverse, the longer you stay with them you should get a discount. There is always an incentive for you to join rogers or bell (3 month deal or something) but when you stay with them, they raise the rates. So much for being a loyal customer. We should stop paying till they cut us off and then switch to another provider.

If it's in the contract that you sign then any business can get away with it.

Exactly.

You don't have to have cable therefore it's your choice. If you don't like it find a different supplier. Or read a book.

Bell is bumping their rates by $4/month. I currently pay an extra $5/month for two standalone channels (they're bundled in packages I don't want, so I simply paid for the two channels on their own.) I'm cancelling those two channels and saving $1/month. The money is irrelevant; its simply principle. Since both companies make profits in the hundreds of millions of dollars, there is no justification for a rate increase, other than their profits aren't rising by enough of a margin to keep their share prices high. Fuck both companies.
