Just got a call from Rogers that they are eliminating bundle discounts unless you sign a 2 year contract. I have been a customer for over 10 years now. I am getting sick and tired of their shit and constant increases. Now they are eliminating discount for loyal customers. Time for me to move to a new supplier for my cable, internet and cell phone. Any suggestions ?

You could switch to fido for your cellphone, keep the same phone, it's still Roger's. Different pricing.

There are only really two vendors in Canada for phone, internet, wireless, and cable tv: Rogers/Shaw and Bell/Telus. You are either on one service or the other, and the various brand names are just different pricing schemes.

They both suck, and they get away with it, because we don't have any choice about it.

I think the op's problem is with them asking him to re-up for 2 years, when he was loyal for so long. That's just crass, and I'd move to just for the effrontery of asking a long-term customer to sign an extended agreement or get their prices jacked up.

To the OP, call them and tell them you are switching unless they leave you where you are, with no contract. They should try to keep you as acquisition costs for new users are so high. You've been gravy for them for a while, and should not be treated like sh#t.

Call and tell them you are switching ALL your services over to
Bell because you are saving ALOT of money on the Bell promotions.
(I had called Bell first and they offered me a discount over Rogers).

They will bend over backwards to keep you and will put you over
to the retention department.

I did this and they knocked off over $80.00 a month on my services!
(Cable, Wireless Home phone and Internet)

Be firm and polite and tell them you need to cut costs that's why you
are leaving.

Try it for yourself.
Companies don't want to risk losing business to a competitor.

Works when buying a car too! Always ask for a better price
than what the other dealer quotes you.

Be assertive- not passive or aggressive..

IT NEVER HURTS TO ASK!!!
Good Luck!

Wow good work, that's a pretty impressive discount.
My total for all those is only about $200 to start with.
Maybe I will call them too.

I think they're trying to lock you in because in the next couple of years there WILL be new competition.

In the meantime, bounce back and forth between Bell and Rogers as seems best at any given point. It's called churn, and they don't really care when they lose you because they're gaining a customer from the competition at the same time.

Because Canada doesn't have the same population base and can't support the same number of competitors.

For starters.

retentions dept.

Being acclamated to this industry, my advice would be to contact the retentions department as others have suggested and threaten that you are going to leave. Indicate that it would be cheaper to move to their competitor than to stick around.

This normally works.

Rogers only cares about new customers -- they couldn't care less of existing customers.

It's backwards thinking with Rogers

I guess they don't get too many new subscribers these days, so they hike prices on existing customers...

Loyalty means nothing these days. You're better off constantly switching providers to take advantage of new customer promos and discounts.

I got that letter recently.

I have 3 Rogers services and have been with them for over 20 years. I got myself transferred to Retention Services, and explained that I made purchase decisions based on the discounts they had given me in the past, and that I expected those discounts to continue, or I would be moving my services to Bell.

It took about 15 minutes, but I ended up with my discount being continued at the rate it's been for the last however many years, for the next 2 years.

Annoying as hell though, that's for sure.

it's not that much better in the US

in most areas, it boils down to comcast or verizon:

comcast - much of the same complaints about rate increases for existing customers

verizon - the lesser of two evils, imo ... if you're in an area that has their new fiber service

Sounds like you did exactly what the latter suggested - commit to 2 years service and keep getting the bundle discount.

LOL! That's hilarious!

Name another industry where the bureaucrats bury you in paperwork and your suppliers are your competitors and may or may not sell to you at a rate that allows you to compete in the marketplace.

Then when the applicant list is short, the bureaucrats add more paperwork to try to "encourage" new entrants.

Your best option for Phone (a proper land line) and internet is Teksavvy. Google them for reviews, they are a bell whole seller. There prices are great and real people answer the phone when you call without hitting a bunch of options, all calls are answered in Ontario. Check out dslreports.com its the Terb for geeks

Starchoice is another choice for TV, however I have not looked at them recently. When compared with Rogers, Bell has more channels for less money.
