While I don't hate having a female play the lead, meh, I'd rather have the traditional male leading a group of "rogues".

What is it with you naysayers? The new Star Wars was great. At least you had the sense to remember how shit the prequels were though. Jimmy seems to have forgotten they even existed. It's the same mentality that compels some people to dump all over the new Ghostbusters for "ruining their childhood"... as if Ghostbusters II never happened.

GB2 was a bust , the last Ghostbusters is a total disaster and joke of a movie.....pretty much every starwars after return of the jedi sucks..... this is the consensus, not just my view.....and the feminazis have taken over hollywood and star wars suddenly....some lead roles are meant to be men and thats that.... might as well make a new godfather now where Nonna stirs the sauce and whacks some enemies too.. lol

These movies are made for kids/teens/young adults.

I thought the Force Awakens was pretty good. Yes it had a number of similar plot points like a droid with a message, a death star etc. But it was light years better than Phantom, Clones, Sith. Those three are unwatchable.

FA was at least fun and effectively evoked emotions.

Rogue One looks interesting..... looks a lot like a war movie. It should be interesting as it looks like it will be mainly new characters and a new story. I think FA was used to serve as a bridge between old and new movies. We're going to find out about what happens to the old characters as they wrap up their stories and we get new stuff.

It's probably about staying on brand, and realizing the original fans are going to die off, so let's rehash this for the next generation.
For me, the Star Wars franchise just lacks edge. They haven't grown or tried anything new. Instead it's become just formulaic. It feels so squeeky clean like a Disney movie...well, I suppose because it's owned by them.

LOL I went to see Star Trek in the theaters last week and I thought it sucked. Stunts and effects with characters I didn't give a shit about. Waste of money. Sets a very low bar.

For me it had nothing to do with the fact I was kid. Even as adult I watched star wars over and over again as I had them all on VHS. The fact the plots are similar didn't bug me. It was cheesiness in the characters and the dialogue.

Examples are like in this clip:

At 3:14, lines like "I'm getting pretty good at this" and at 3:53 "are we really doing this??".

You can use humor, and make it fun, but you have to walk the fine line of cheesy and funny. This shit was all over the movie and it was totally cheesy, not funny.

I think the first one is just to set up the characters for the next one. I like the female leads in the movies. It is not like the movie didn't have male actors in important roles.
Can't wait for Rogue One.
