I was going to say the same things, thanks for saving me the time. Who's your provider and what do you pay for 175GB a month?
That would be bell and I pay about 90 a month plus taxes

And Tang as far as I know the nexus 10 has 32gig storage minus the operating system it might have around 25gigs or less.

So if that's true what your saying that's 32 gigs is not enough for you so you put a add on expandable memory slot say another 32gigs that's 64 gigs total minus the operating system.

That's seem like a lot of extra hardware to be carting around.

You could always get yourself a 128 gig iPad air if space is a issue for you tang and for the times you can connect to the net you could always run a hotspot from your phone.

I think android you can get a app to run a hotspot on my iPhone it's built in to the iOS.

Yes, the 5" USB cable and the memory sticks are fucking killer. I actually have a sherpa that travels with me strictly to carry these cumbersome objects.

That feature was built into android LONG before it was built into an iphone. Not that it matters when I'm in another country because data access can be so expensive.
An ipad could have a TB of space, it would still be useless to me because of how restricted it is. Can you download from usenet straight to it? No it won't. Does it play MKV files without conversion? No it doesn't. Can it connect to a USB or Bluetooth gamepad for gaming (which I also do when I travel)? No it can't. Etc etc.

the hobby needs more capitalism
Good for you. Do you think that means because it's good for you then everyone else should therefore be satisfied also? 32 gigs isn't even close to enough for some people. Myself being one of them. I travel a bit and my tablet gets filled with videos. When I had a xoom I took full advantage of the SD exapansion slot. Now I have a nexus 10 which doesn't have a slot unfortunately, but I still hook up SD cards and thumb drives to it using an OTG cable. Absolutely invaluable.

Excellent solution. Oh shit, I just remembered, I don't have data access on a plane. Fuck, that SIM card I bought when I arrived at the airport only gives me 50MB of data. Crap, the internet connection at my hotel is slow a hell and is also blocking my server. If only I had the files on my local storage space.

At home I would agree with you, but I can count on one hand the number of times I've wanted to hook up my tablet to my TV at home. However in hotels I do it frequently.
Very valid points, Tang.

That's why I'm glad Android exists. It serves as an alternative for those who have different needs and the iPad is not a match.

As long as someone has the right tool for the job, that's what should matter. However, I do think the current solutions for most are very inelegant and look forward to other manufacturers and merchants (eg. TV vendors, hotels, airlines) adopt more modern solutions.

I own a iPad and a Nexus 7. I like the Nexus 7 but I cannot find the type of apps I use and in many cases, the quality of them on Android. So I always find myself going back to my iPad.

And the ipad would still cost way more than android tablet and the cost of an extra pocket but whatever you want.

Standard on android since the beginning.

Cool. I didn't know that. It wasn't an option when I had one.
So I can just hook up an iphone/ipad to my PC and drag the file into it right?
Actually, on the iPhone you can do that with certain apps and they will play the file. The Kindle app comes to mind with the mobi files.

If you're going to complain about ease of use, then, why don't you complain how epubs and pdgs are handled on Android? It's a LOT more elegant on iOS than it is on Android.

I don't know what a PDGS is, but I put epubs on my phone the same way I do with mp3 and mkv file. I drag and drop with my file browser on my computer and then open them with my reader on the device. Unless apple products have mind reading abilities, it couldn't be simpler.

I think you're absolutely wrong.

I have both...the first iPad mini and the Nexus 7 (2013). Both are really great machines but neither one is substantially better than the other.
Using a friends Nexus 7 2 nod gen and you can't tell me that the Nexus isn't noticeably faster??
Plus the fact that you can download Swype makes it that much better for typing (much faster) than the pad.
As well, holding the Nexus with one hand is much easier for use and functionality.
The two things I like about e pad however, is the overall feel of the device and the multi-gestures.
The rubber backing on the Nexus bothers me personally after a little while, but I suppose it's good so I know it's time to put the damn thing down.

But overall, I'd have to give the edge to the Nexus because of app availability, customization and it's sheer speed.

I own the mini, for the record, it was a gift, so I can't complain too much.

From what I've seen, the nexus has a better display, more ram, and cheaper while the mini has a better cpu and a larger screen. Personally if I was going to get a small tablet it would be the nexus but it's not that easy a decision.
Nexus 7 is nice but the rubbery backing is awkward to hold after awhile, I suppose it's because it retains the heat and your palms get warmer in turn.
If the Nexus 7 had the mini material that would make it that much better.

I should add the video quality seems immensely better on the Nexus as well.
Very convenient to slip into your back pocket and/or your inner jacket pocket.

But, some clown will still insist you know nothing and are just a ignorant fanboi!

As if millions and millions of people around the world know absolutely nothing about computers and are idiots who just buy shiny toys.
You got it. Lol

Why is the "Genius Bar" so busy then? Lol

It's PDFs, my bad.

You've never used iBooks have you? Here is how it is done:

iOS (old version since I have not upgraded yet):

1. Start up iTunes.
2. Click the Books tab.
3. Command-open to navigate to where the epub is, select and it is imported into iTunes (or into iBooks in the end).
4. Sync between iTunes and iPhone.

Nexus 7:

1. Start up Android File Transfer if you are on Mac.
2. Select epub and drag and drop into relevant folder that you choose.
3. Start up the e-reader app that you want to use such as Mantano or Aldiko. Mantano is great for PDFs while Aldiko is so-so. (iBooks works great for both epubs and PDFs.)
4. Select "Import" at the top right hand corner.
5. Navigate through who knows how many files are listed and check the box.

I have close to a hundred epubs and PDFs on my iPhone...now, imagine having to go through step 5 on the Nexus to find the one you want to import or not. That's why I have more epubs and PDFs on the iPhone than I do on the Nexus. Granted that that will change since the Nexus is a lot easier to read large PDFs on than with the iPhone.

No, I cannot tell that it is noticeably faster but that depends on what you are using it for doesn't it?

As for handholding, the Nexus feels awkward in horizontal mode at times and I always have to remember not to put it where the buttons are on the bottom right, too easy to muck around with the sound. And I like the rubber backing.

As for app availability, sorry, but it's not as good and it took MXPlayer days to catch up to Kit Kat. I haven't even tried it since I installed the update.

Customization? Maybe some people have lives to waste dicking around with this and that but I don't.

Because millions of people have bought the products and there will always be issues. At least you know where you can get on-site help instead of having to ask questions through forums.
Was playing at Apple Store today and the "Genius Bar"was PACKED!!!!
Seems like lots of peeps were mainly befuddled moving from M$ -> Mac....others were wondering why their 'over priced' Mac stuff was breaking down!!!....

Nothing wrong with the excellent International Help Forums that ARE OPEN 24/7....unlike the limited hours the "Genius Bar" is open for you.....:eyebrows:

Ya waiting in line, filled with rage that you paid a premium for a product and now you have to wait to get help for it. Lemmings all following each other.

But I guess that's why there's very strict control over the phone and tablets, because it'd be a nightmare to deal with if people started customizing their own products.

If I had a $1,000 for everytime I heard customers bitch while in the line at the genius bar "this is ridiculous, I paid $$$$.$$ for this thing and now I have to wait?" lol

Then you're being 100% dishonest, the Nexus is much, much faster.

As for handholding, the Nexus feels awkward in horizontal mode at times and I always have to remember not to put it where the buttons are on the bottom right, too easy to muck around with the sound. And I like the rubber backing.
Vertically, it's bliss to hold and execute things with your thumb, horizontally, it's alright, but I find myself in portrait mode 90% of the time. The rubber backing is growing on me, but it's the speed really that is making me like the rubber backing.

As for app availability, sorry, but it's not as good and it took MXPlayer days to catch up to Kit Kat. I haven't even tried it since I installed the update.
I'm content with the Google App store. How many apps do you need really? I have zero games, Sound Hound, Screen Dimmer (something iPad, iPhone will never get no doubt), Outlook, FireFox and the other basics that came with my phone.
If you're life revolves around apps (which means you have time to find them) and you can't live without them, what did you do pre-app era??? You poor thing.

Customization? Maybe some people have lives to waste dicking around with this and that but I don't.
Setting up a wallpaper really takes that long for you? Or tweaking out how you like icons to appear, animations, no animations (which makes things faster, which sounds like you could use some speed since you apparently have no time for anything but Terb and taking your daily dumps).
It's a nice way to brush it off as nothing, when in fact, I bet you do wish you could tweak things, but just can't on your iDevice. I'd brush it off too if I paid that much.
Shit, I got the mini for free and wish I could customize it more.

But if you have time to watch movies or tv shows via MXPlayer.......surely you could slip in a few minutes to customize your $500.00 plus device ;)

I have all of my media in iTunes, stream it to multiple Apple TVs, synch it with iPads and Have a Seagate Wireless plus with 1Tb of movies on it for the kids in the back for a drive - supports 3 streaming devices at one time in HD….. pretty handy.
