Work in finance + side hustle - probably 250-350 depending on year. My goal is to hit 500k but mostly passive income with working 10-15 hours a week. Agree that Canadian salaries suck, but that’s also why hobbying here is more affordable than eg New York
Let me put it this way, I do not hobby because I have 3 middle management lady friends with benefits. They take me out for dinners, one lady asked me to meet her in LV when she went there on her company convention. Later we went to SF, she insisted on taking care of me in every way. When they go on vacation they sometimes bring me back boxes of cigars or a nice bottle. Some of which I would not buy for myself, a $120 bottle of Sherry is nice but frivolous. They may be making the equivalent of a second salary with my advice. At one point there was a fourth lady, she took a career advancement in another city, but she still benefits from my advice. She still come back to see family and me 2-3 times a year.
How much do I make? As much as I can as a pro TSX gamester. FYI- The markets might take off next week, if Trump does not put out some bad news to dampen the economy.

Now that you asked, I am thinking the question is nuanced

I feel safe with no pressure to outperform which is worth a lot
I have benefits so what are they worth? I cannot figure that out for they are worth nothing if you do not use them and I do have retirement package but I may die first
80k a year without overtime plus benefits which add at least 50% I would guess
so that puts me in the 120 k range but I like overtime so I grab it to fill out my RRSP first so it is tax free then TFSA so I guess I am in the 140k range

I don't care if this is an anonymous forum, asking people their income is bad form, and so is telling people your income.
How much you earn and how much you have in assets is strictly between you, the CRA and whoever does your taxes in April.

So this is absolutely great, but doesn't REALLY tell much right? I've heard stories of persons making that much and more, but also "drowning" in debt and other financial obligations at the same time! The "trick" is DISPOSABLE income available for this and other expenses
Being wealthy, and trying to show it, is very expensive...
As I once heard it stated, people will spend oodles of money on things they don't need or even want in order to impress people they don't like -- I think that actually sums it up!
In my younger days, I spent a few years living in England. There was a guy who used to stop in at the country pub in Derbyshire where I worked who was from the true Upper Class -- in short, his family had been landowners since the 11th century, and he and his family were crazy rich only because they descended from some French knight who'd come over with William the Conqueror, and money and land had literally been passed down for 1,000 years.
This guy would dress in clothes that looked like he found them at a second-hand shop and he drove an old Vauxhall (the British subsidiary of Chevrolet). The only thing that would make you think this guy was wealthy was that he lived in an old manor house by himself. This guy made made me understand the difference between Old Money and New Money.
Let’s see approximately 5 years ago I was sent down to the US of A to see our sister plant decommissioned and a new process brought up to the tropical plant. Spent about 3 weeks down there watching everything taking apart taking notes and pictures. The government of Canada mandated that the new process be up and running by the end of the year. The parts came up in May okay fine everything was here I’m ready to go. And as management knows they wait and wait and wait well follow me on the journey. The day after Labor Day I got the okay to install this processing line mechanically and planning of it was left to me, myself, and I. The electrical work was done by the electrician. With the amount of work involved to get it ready by the end of the year I started work at 3 AM and finished at 5 PM 7 days a week for 4 months. You read that right approximately 98 hours per week, and don’t forget overtime after 40. So for about 4 months work I just made under 100 grand. A week before Christmas they had to get the chemist from the states appear for something I did not know about Toronto is higher than Rally North Carolina so elevation played a part in the chemistry. The plant was up and running I quit and took a vacation, and the sad part was in May they close the whole plant. OH and also thru about 90 percent straight into the bank on time to spend but now retired sit back and watch the world go buy.
Cool story. Trying to lecture ppl on what's good and bad form is stupid in any decade.
