Peel Regional Police - Dirty dancing results in charges
BRAMPTON, ON, March 4 /CNW/ - The Peel Regional Police Vice Unit have
laid a total of 24 charges following a three month investigation into illegal
activities in area strip clubs.
In December 2003, the Vice Unit, with the assistance of the Street Crime
Unit and Neighbourhood Policing Units, commenced By-Law inspections at the
Latin Quarter in Brampton as well as the Locomotion Tavern, Cannon Ball
Cabaret, and the Airport Strip in Mississauga. Investigators have been working
in partnership with the Alcohol and Gaming Commission and the Mississauga and
Brampton By-law Enforcement Units.
Based upon observations made by Police, a total of eleven dancers have
been charged under the by-law for permitting sexual touching. The owners of
theses establishments have also been charged with allowing sexual touching to
occur.
Additional charges have also been laid against the owners for improper
registration of dancers. One dancer was found in breach of her immigration
status. This was reported to Canada Immigration officials who are
investigating. Police intend to continue with inspections of adult
entertainment parlours to ensure compliance with the by-laws and Liquor
Licence Act.
