LOL, just received 2 scam phone calls this morning.

1-automated voice :"There are charges against a credit card that look suspicious. etc...press 1 to accept charges or 2 to cancel charges etc.....

2-automated voice: "There are fraud charges filed against your SIN#, call us immediately to avoid being arrested! etc......

#2 has called me several times in the past, I'm still waiting to be arrested by RCMP!

People still fall for these scams!
Most likely the suckers come from other countries, where the government +/or the cops are not always your friend. Many years ago I heard on the radio about an accused person who was judged innocent, and the family of the victim asked if somebody had paid a bribe to the judge. It was probably the norm in their country of origin.

What do you do if you can''t trust the people who are supposed to help you, and you are afraid of going to jail? I have sympathy for those people. When I was called by the gov't scammers, in the days before recordings, I agreed with all of their allegations, and then when they said the police would come to my door to take me away, I told him that I would be out every night that week, but I would home on Monday to Wednesday next week. The poor guy did not know what to say. This was not the script. He paniced and hung up on me. D-Oh!

I get 2-3 calls a day from these scammers.
I am trying to keep them on the phone as long as possible to piss them off.
Currently my Name is Ian Peter Knightly (I.P. Knightly)
I have an address, Postal Code, Phone Number, fictitious SIN #
I had one guy swear at me before he hung up.
So far my record is 2 minutes 27 seconds of actual talking to the person.

Well then without further debate, you should be unhesitantly admitted to the Scammer Calls Hall of Fame lol.

So you select cancel charges, where does the scam come in?

Brilliant! all that hobby time shouldn't be going to waste right now. I'll use Ben Dover for the name and (Jerry Falwell's) Liberty University for address, etc...

I've been getting a few calls recently. Today I got a missed call.

I call the number back within two minutes. Turns out it's a pizza hut number and they never tried calling me.

The scammers are spoofing phone numbers. Somehow piggy back on legit numbers and use them to dial victims.

If I get a call from a # I don't recognize, I let it go to voice mail.
I then google # to see if there are scammer complaints tied to #.

This poor workers are often packed together in scam call centres which are Covid-19 friendly. Some these rings were arrested recently in India where they were targeting Canadians.

The one that had to take the cake for me was getting a call from a CRA scammer at close to 5 on a Friday night a couple of weeks before X-Mas.

I was tempted to call them back and ask if they honestly expected me to believe that even the most dedicated government employee would be making a call like that so close to quitting time on a Friday and starting legal proceedings right before most government offices would be shutting down for the holiday.

They are very common, but with unknown name so never answer and they never leave a message.
