futureshop rating is 4.45 out of 5, but dont really know good & bad of it. Would prefer to hear good & bad from some1 who knows.
Have had no luck finding any reviews at all for this camera thus far, i'm guessing its pretty new still?
Hoping some terbites might able to provide some info.

Thinking of gettiing this as going away present for a friend. hear 7mp is pretty good. If there is any other suggestion for other cameras, would love to hear them too
thanx

Review from Steve's Digicams:

"Bottom line - I was a bit disappointed with the overall performance of this model. Not only is it slow, but the 7-megapixel images it creates are only OK. With a street price of US$199 or less, I feel there are better models out there in this price range. However, if you liked the features found on this camera, take a look at its brother, the FE-230. It's also 7-megapixels, but features a more compact and durable body, better performance, and is only about $50 more."

The $160 price at FutureShop is probably OK. You get what you pay for. Depends what you want to do with the camera and how much you know about photograohy.

hmm so far not so good, seems canon would be the best bet. I"m not looking for anything professional, just a simple east to use. But for 150, 7.1mp, i would want good graphics, although I thought 7.1 mp was pretty good.
guess i'll keep looking around for now, thanx guys

Nikon

Just about any major brand camera today 3 mega pixels and above will provide an awesome quality picture.

I've owned many Canons, while good bang for the buck, a bit slow recovering from a shot (much like me).

Nikon do have great lens.

I have not heard many good things about Olympus in general.

try epinions

A couple of things stand out with this camera.

First. No auto off function. Consider this, you're at a function..you take a picture put the camera down and it STAYS ON..wearing down the batteries. Most cameras will auto off in a selectable menu that you can choose from.

Second. It uses only two AA batteries for power..which is very limited. You'll need a lot of batteries with you due to the non auto off function..or never use to back LCD to compose or view your pictures.

Third. It's a very very low ISO camera. You can shoot between 64 and 640. What this means is you have the ability to use the low number of 64 is very very bright situations but you have a very very limited ISO of 640 for dimly lit situations.

A 640 ISO means you will not get any useable nighttime shots. You will get something but you will get blur and focusing problems.

Based on the tech info I'd pass on this camera and consider others.

Plus..do not ever believe the future shop buyer comments. If a certain item is put on the commission list as a bonus sell...they'll steer you there. It's only human nature that employees will go online and "push" certain products or FS may itself do this. WE really have no way of knowing.

You've done the right thing..you've asked outside of the camera store for an opinion..now go and do your own research and come back if you need any info clarified.

A common misconception. Pixel resolution (i.e. # of megapixels) is not necessarily related to picture quality. Picture quality depends mostly on the quality of the lens and and the size/quality of the sensor. The number of megapixels is more an indication of how large the picture can be printed or how much the image can be cropped before there's loss of detail. A high resolution camera with a lousy lens and/or sensor will give you a huge image file but a low quality picture.

This was true of some of the older Canons (like the "A" series, A95, A520, etc.) Any of the newer Canons that use a Digic II or Digic III processor are extremely speedy in terms of both shutter delay (the time from when the shutter button is pressed to when the picture is taken) and image processing time (time between shots). Keep in mind that even some very fast cameras can be slowed down by the flash. If the flash is set to always on or auto, there can be a longer delay between pictures while you wait for the flash to recycle.
