From the article
Martin's record with the Senators is 325-241-93. He has won an Eastern Conference regular-season title and three Northeast Division titles. Last season, the Senators fell one win shy of advancing to the Stanley Cup final, losing to New Jersey in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference final.
Not too shabby, considering when he took over the coaching job the Senators were building their team. Some lean years, back then. And he's still way above .500.

I say good for the Senators. Bad for Toronto.

Good news, bad news...

Unfortunately I agree with Goober on this one. Although jacques has take some heat for the Sens poor showings in the playoffs, he's an excellent coach and not the reason at all.

However on a positive not, if you look at how extensions play out in the coaching fraternity, jacques is already the caoch with the longest tenure with the same team in the NHL so the odds of him actually making it through the extension are slim.

I guess its a case of becareful of what you wish for.

I still think they should have showed Alfredson the respect of signing him first.

Alfie's new contract will be a little more complicated to put together that Martin's.

Don't worry yourself, Alfie will be back!

Sounds like something a sports reporter would say to a player to stir up shit.

I think he's a solid coach. Only 1 coach a year (the Cup winner) can escape with no criticism. The Leafs, or Sens for that matter, could make it to the finals 3 years in a row but lose and people would call for the coach's head. I think as long as the team stays realistically competitive and somewhat deep into the playoffs consistently, the coach has done a good job, as has happened for the most part in both Toronto and Ottawa.

Martin has had the Sens in the playoffs every full year he has coached. He also hired Roger Neilson, whom ended his coaching career with dignity after the disgusting way he was treated by Bobby Clarke after cancer had set in.
