What's your point? If you are transiting, you bring very, very little to the US economy. A minimal portion of your flight tickets and maybe a coffee or a beer in the layover?
Not really, transit passengers help maintain the critical mass of the US airline network. With that network some people stay and some people connect, but when volumes drop, flight get more expensive, frequency drop and the network starts to fray.

Could be, one was an acquaintance of mine who said it happened to his friend.
I also heard anecdotes online.

Thank you for the sources. Yes, anecdotes may not tell the whole story, but after further research, I think I agree that this is happening.

Freedom of speech only applies to laws passed by Congress, and border agents have total discretion not to allow you in for any reason. So a Trump fan border agent can not admit, regardless of whether they violated any law.. Sexworkers have, for years, been denied US admission if there is evidence of their "immoral" activities. This assumes that the foreigner is not yet within the US (allowed entry by CDP).

What is in dispute is the massive immigration deportations, as Trump lies, saying "dangerous criminals." But most of the detentions of folks without papers have never committed a crime or a speeding ticket 10 years ago, and many have deep roots in the US, working and maybe have been in the US 20 years with family, etc.

On 9/30/2025, after a long trial and testimony in the case of American Association of University Professors v. Rubio, a Federal Court ruled that free speech can also apply to non-citizens once they are in the US. It is a 161-page opinion that I have not entirely read, but that makes some interesting points from a quick scan. The Trump Justice Department will probably appeal it. But as of now, there are no free speech rights of non-citizens.

There are many cases of ICE detainment of students protesting the genocide of Palestinian civilians. I strongly support Israel's right to go after Hamas, but it has gone overboard, killing too many civilians. I want to ask, when they do massive attacks by the Israeli army, is anyone shooting back at them???

Ya right lol And if this just so happens to be true are people not able to say I don’t have an opinion or stay neutral and just not say anything.
It's true. Happened to my neighbour and they turned him around for saying he thought Trump was ruining the Can/USA friendship. They said he'd also need an "exemption" before he tried to enter the US again.. or he'd "risk being detained". This guy is a fucking surgeon at a big GTA hospital, and white.

Crossing the border by car can be especially intimidating nowadays.

The Guardian isn’t exactly known for unbiased reporting.

I crossed by car 4 times this year, twice from MB, once from ON and once from AB. Nothing out of the ordinary at all, one of the crossings in to the US was probably the quickest I’ve ever had. The only issue I had at all was crossing in to ON the Canadian Customs Officer was a complete dick, I felt like he was intentionally trying to goad me into an argument.

Like some of the others said I have a fairly regular history of crossing at the same points at roughly the same times, I’ve always been honest with what I have in the car and never been caught lying. I wasn’t stopped more than about 3 mins crossing in to the US this year.
