The idea is to introduce a system at agencies where all ladies can get minority shares and a year-end bonus based on individual performance (say 60%) and agency performance (say 40%). This would align the interests of the ladies to their agency and vice versa. It would also encourage ladies to share and try to help other ladies that are not performing to up to par. Finally, agencies should introduce a pool system that helps ladies when they are sick or unable to work can also promote loyalty to an agency.

Let me know if you think this idea can work. It is based on trust but it is also based on alignment of interest. Make the ladies part owners and you'll see a huge change in terms of loyalty and the bottom line. Anyways, that is what I think - give the ladies a vested interest and see if it works.

Naive or realistic?

Terb members,

Just to let you know, so far, the best responses to my question came from Perb:

I especially liked LuthBlissett`s response. Any thoughts on Terb on whether this can work? I have been accused on other boards of being naive and living in fantasy land but I still believe this is the best approach to this and all businesses. When people have performance bonus and shares, they care about the service they`re providing.

Year end profit sharing is a good idea for any company, it encourages loyalty.

I don't see where loyalty is helpful to clients though, what's in it for me? :p

I like the idea of women owning their own business or working in a cooperative with others, but it means more work for them. Some girls are happy leaving all that to someone else.

More work? Why? I still think my idea can aplly to agencies. In the end, the agency gets more profits, the ladies more money and the clients better service.

People who strictly work for someone do less work, and get paid less. Some like this situation, there is less headache and risk.

Anyway, what's your interest in this as a client?

Without seeing current pay and benifits structure, it is difficult to say one way or the other. But in reality people tend to work harder and give better service when they are an owner.

Svend,

My interest as a client is simple: better service. I originally started the thread on Merb from a discussion on how to keep agency ladies loyal to their agency and how we can improve Montreal agencies.

It is not workable for a few reasons.

The ladies are basically independent contractors, not employees, they are generally not at one agency for years, more like months, and they all work a different number of hours per month, so it would become difficult to determine the amount to be paid to each individual lady.

The only way to determine the amount of bonus due to each lady would be to base it on individual volume, and the ladies would rather be paid this bonus daily. Some places do something like this. It would be difficult to determine the incentive due if some ladies help out other ladies that are not doing as well.

And finally, although there are more reasons why this yearly bonus would not work, who could be trusted to hold the bonus money.

Paying the ladies a daily bonus to show up on time would be a nice idea. But looking at it from the agencies side, it is more profitable to fine the ladies who show up late.

It's nice to see that someone's hard earned business education is not going to waste. But seriously, didn't Michael Keaton and Henry Winkler try something like this in "Night Shift"?

Funny movie. Sample line:

Chuck Lumley (Henry Winkler) As we sit here and idly chat, there are women, female human beings, rolling around in strange beds with strange men, and we are making money from that.

Bill Blazejowski (Michael Keaton): Is this a great country, or what?

Interesting Idea GG. But have to agree with KBear.
Another issue is how do you provide such a bonus to the ladies that work only part time due to school or other commitments but are exceptional when they do work?

Of course they can be given shares but how do you propose these shares will be worth more than the paper they are printed on?

If the bonus is coming out of the owner's pocket, of course the ladies would like that.

If you are proposing that part of the escorts' pay be held in escrow and given to them at the end of the year, why would any ladies want to do this?

The bonus as an incentive sounds good on paper, but it wouldn't work in real life. These girl make so much money that the bonus would seems like nothing relatively to money they make.

What books would they use for profit sharing?

The Real Books or what is reported for taxes. The SP's would get screwed again.
