Sps have called me Speedy Gonzales before but for something entirely different.

No shit thou...there is a movement brewing over the "cultural stereotype" of Speedy Gonzalez...

They have to keep inventing new ones to be outraged about.

People are already mocking them for the idiotic Dr Seuss freakout and they have already exhausted the outrage machine for Mr Potato Head.

A NY Times columnist mentions Pepe Le Pew and Speedy Gonzales? (No one calls for them to be banned.)
Time to spin up the outrage machine and stage a freak out over Cancel Culture!

It's tired and predictable.

They better not go after Betty and Wilma next. I've always dreamed of a duo with The Housewives Of Bedrock!

Yes, he goes too fast it's offensive to slow people. Stop perpetuating the unimportance of slow culture.

So...If you've ever seen the original Looney Toons from the 40s, they are filled with racist stereotypes. There is a reason why they've been heavily edited when they were shown on Saturday morning cartoons in the 80s. Some stuff, which must've been done during WWII show Japanese soldiers as bucktooth and wearing thick glasses. Basically, they were dehumanizing them (and well....considering the atrocities the Japanese army did during WWII and before...maybe not so far off the mark).

But, we live in a world that does not have the same views as the past (well, at least for most of us). I saw a Twitter thread earlier today that called this type of outrage someone carrying the idiot ball. Apparently it comes from TV writers rooms, where they need a character in a show to act like an idiot for the episode. They said it started with Hank Azaria asking so who's carrying the idiot ball now?

The point it, the right-wing folks who went into a melt down over Mr. Potato Head or the Dr. Seuss stuff, they know they're making mountains out of molehills. They have decided, collectively, to carry the idiot ball. And remember, the ball is just a ball, but the idiot is the idiot....

The point I'm trying to make, this is fake outrage. They use it to distract people from the real problems. They do it to underreport things, like Biden's success passing the latest $1.9T Covid relief package. They do it to distract from the growing story regarding the attempted coup back in January. They do it so their viewers don't think about the GOPs many failings when they are the party in power.

I just don’t care anymore. What I’ve done over the years is collect all my favourite movies and tv shows in their original form so no matter what happens I still can watch them the way they were made to be seen.

The Bugs Bunny Show isn't even on the air anymore. Literally, cancelled to make room for other shows. I guess some people can't let go.

I don't think it's fake outrage at all. There are lots of people who just don't want to live in a society where the snowflakes (the one's who are offended by everything) get to dictate what's acceptable and what gets cancelled. That's not a molehill to a lot of ppl...perhaps it is to you and many on twitter, though.

Which is why we want these right wingers to shut up and stop trying to tell us what we can watch.

Nope, I can't let go and won't let go. The memories of childhood are the best memories of life. Not a care in the world, no responsibilities. Can't get better than that.
