Shouldice: A question

After ignoring a growing hernia for almost a year...my Doctor read me the riot act and explained what could happen if I don't get it repaired sooner rather than later.
His recommendation was the Shouldice Clinic.
Anyone have any experience with them? How long does the operation put you down...a day, a couple of days, a week?
Would like some idea of what I am getting in for here.

I had an inguinal hernia operation there. I highly recommend it. I was back at work in a week, and back to normal in a couple of months.

A co-worker was back in his office THE NEXT DAY. He is a tough old SOB though, and he wasn't moving around much.

Agreed. It seems more like a resort than a hospital. Well, a resort where they drug you, cut into you near your genitals and administer lots of painkillers.

Okay, it's like a hospital, but it's a GOOD hospital.

My dad had his hernia operation done over there.

No problems. I think he had to spend one night at the hospital.

It is very well known as specializing in hernias. A lot of patients had come over from the States because it is a heck a lot of cheaper to get it done here.

My wife went there for an operation and chatted with some guy who came from California for the procedure. I read about someone who travelled here from India and his operation was televised to various medical schools.

The way the hospital is run is quite often studied by universities as an example of a very highly succesful organization.

I had an inguinal hernia repaired there as well. There probably isn't a better place for hernia surgery anywhere on the planet. There were several Americans there. One guy flew all the way from San Francisco and another from Moscow. Many patients had already had unsuccessful surgery at home and were now paying to come to Canada to have it done again. It is an absolute no brainer to go there for a hernia. I was back to work in a week.

I tried that the other night.....funny enough some dude came over to me and told me to meet him in the washroom in 15 mins....he said he would go in the stall and tap his foot 3 times....after that, I didn't feel like a beer....kind of felt dirty

Wrong Hole....it is not a matter of age...it is how much weight one has to lift when standing at the urinal...in hernia's size matters!

Thanks to all the serious replies, I appreciated the info...I am seeing them tomorrow to start the process. It appears that they are booking now for June. Hopefully it won't take to big a bite out of my golf season!
