DUBAI (Reuters) - Arabic television Al Jazeera aired on Thursday a purported new tape by senior al Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahri in which he called on Pakistanis to overthrow "traitor" President Pervez Musharraf's government.
I call on Muslims in Pakistan to get rid of their government which is working for Americans," said the voice on the tape, which sounded like previous recordings for Zawahri, right-hand man of Osama bin Laden (news - web sites).
"Musharraf wants to stab the Muslim Jihad (holy struggle) uprising in Afghanistan (news - web sites) in the back. The Pakistani people had offered a helping hand to their brothers in Afghanistan, that's why Americans delegated Musharraf to take revenge on the tribes along the border, especially the Pashtun."
Pakistan, a key U.S. ally in the "war on terror," has been waging a bloody campaign over the last fortnight to root out al Qaeda fighters on its Afghan border in tandem with a U.S. sweep on the other side of the frontier.
Pakistani officials said last week fierce resistance suggested militants were protecting a "high-value target," perhaps Zawahri -- but the military later said that was unfounded "guesswork."
Musharraf narrowly escaped two assassination attempts in December blamed on Muslim militants.
He faced strong opposition demands on Thursday to stop the offensive by some 5,000 troops in the lawless South Waziristan tribal region, but officials said it would go on until all militants were eliminated. Scores of people have been killed. Pashtun tribes inhabit both sides of the Afghan-Pakistan border.

This is a little to close for comfort. is bbking really OBL? And you're welcomebbking said:Thanks OTB - I like a little challenge
1) US invades Iraq looking for WMD that don't exist. All attempts by the US to show a people who do not understand the concept of Democracy fail miserably when the Kurds launch a terror campaign against the Sunni's and Shite's. The Shite's main religous leader despite proof that the Kurds are responsible declares a holy war on the Sunni's.
2) Iran declares their intention to support their fellow Shites with money, equipment - the US demands that Iran stop this but when Iran refuses the US bombs Iran's military back to the Stone Age. With no military, the Mullahs can no longer control the moderates and in a bloody but short coup - the moderates take over Iran. Score one for the US
3) Over in Pakistan - because the US is so tied up in Iraq, the US puts enormus pressure on Musharif to deal with the radical element in his Country which enjoys the support of 92% of the population. Musharif kills one too many of these radicals and while inspecting the troops on the Afgan border, he accidently falls from a helicopter and is replaced by a General who thinks he is the second coming of Mohamed. This new leader tells the US to farkoff and sets all Al Quada prisoners free. He also annouces that all former Muslim lands in the Sub Continent belong to Pakistan.
