Skype, Anyone using it?

Just installed Skype 2.0 on my laptop running 64 bit Ubuntu 9.04.
It works on Windows & Mac also.

Skype installed like a charm in < 1 minute after enabling the Medibuntu repos, then putting the code, via command line, in terminal. Took a couple more minutes to figure it out, then configure Skype and it was good to go.

Anyone using Skype? Sound quality appears pretty good for VOIP and all calls worldwide, from PC to PC are free, including chat and video.

Costs: Unlimited calls to landlines in the USA and Canada are €1.95/month €2.24 incl. VAT.

I have been using it for years. I also subscribe to a monthly fee that enables me to call computer to landline anywhere in Canada and the US for $0.00.

Too bad. I have had it for 3 years now and the quality is wonderful. Works great, especially if I am away and want to call. Take the laptop and a headset and voila, instant communication! Cleaar as anything as well, I may add

I have been using pc to pc for years now the quality is excelent. I tried a few years ago the pc to phone a few years ago, they had it for free for some time, and the quality at that time was not good, I was getting eko and delay.
Perhaps the tecnology has improved now....
But I speak overseas with the pc and its like having someone in you room.

I'm impressed with the sound quality!
Just made my first PC to PC call with laptop and it worked great using desktop mike & laptop speakers. Just did a search of Buffalo and tried several numbers till a gal answered who was willing to talk a bit to test Skype out.

Not bad at all for VOIP....

One of the Skype features I like is using it to make conference calls, connecting a few people who are in different parts of the world, country or city. Also you can set up the webcam and see the people you are chatting with. Love it.

Saw that 'conference calls' feature. It looked neat.
Also while doing a search in Buffalo saw quite a few 'working girls' using the video feature when shilling their 'webcam' adult sites.

Another great option is magicJack; you purchase the equipment for $20 and service is $20/year; the calls are crystal clear; there is no video; you get your own phone # and voice mail; from the US and Canada you have unlimited calling to anywhere in the world (or vice versa); setting up is a bit less complicated and service is more reliable than Skype; there are some dramatic changes coming in phone service and I'm afraid the phone companies are going to be making a little less money on us

Not just the phone companies but the cable TV companies are worried to. With everything headed towards wireless your PC will be able to do all they do and more.

Heard about MagicJack. Also couldn't believe how easy it was to setup Skype, < 1 minute to download & install, then a couple minutes to learn/configure...

I have magic jack and I think things may be changing with them - I have found calling out is fine, but calling in to me is problematic.

Had used it for a few years until my company offered a VoIP service for free to employees..... quality was inconsistent but you can't beat the price.

I've used Skype for chat long ago once but never for calls. How can someone call you? DO you get a phone number for Skype?

I used Skype on my laptop when travelling in Europe this year, low cost way to make calls back to Canada, the laptop becomes a phone booth....cool.

Anyone try skype on their iphone yet... heading to Asia in a couple of weeks and thinking about giving it a try.
