I think these will do well in a niche market. The problem is niche means limited opposed to mass market which most OEMs need due to razor thin margins.

I can't see more than a select few players in this space as a result.
That's easy!It will be interesting to see where the much rumored Apple Tablet fits in this scenario.

I'm not too sure Apple needs to release a tablet. I don't think it makes sense. It will be interesting to see where the much rumored Apple Tablet fits in this scenario.

That's a niche market too.I read an article predicting that they would outcompete netbooks.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/blog/2009/feb/18/netbooks-market-appleThe global netbook market reached a scale of 14 million units in 2008, and with shipments continuing to rise, the scale will reach 25-30 million units in 2009, and 40-45 million units in 2010, according to Scott Lin, president of Acer Taiwan.
I think smartphones is where it's at for a pick up and go mobile experience. But netbooks are still a rather small part of the market. There should be around 300m PCs sold this year, based on actual sales of 271m in 2007 and 302m in 2008. (You can make your own guess about how bad things might get.) Anyway, 30m netbooks (topside) out of 300m PCs would only give netbooks 10% of the market.
I'd bet there will be a tablet released before April 15 next year..... I think it will be a Touch on steroids (probably with 3g)I'm not too sure Apple needs to release a tablet. I don't think it makes sense.
However, I have faith in Apple's ability to execute.
I'd say that's a good call, the iPhone OS have 40% market share of mobile web browsing.....That's a niche market too.
