Ok, I'm working away and have the TV on low and from time to time watching the Italy Uruguay game

I cannot believe the number of fake dives that these guys are pulling.

It's laughable.

Fake dives, grabbing at body parts, pretending to be in agony. Give me a break. They way they are acting, you'd think that they just took a bullet to the gut.

Try putting on a pair of skates and playing hockey. 8 year old hockey players are tougher than these guys.

meh... every sport dives... hockey, football, and basketball.. the difference?... playing and running for 45 mins straight, twice..with hardly any breaks..no timeouts.

.i'd fake an injury to catch my breath too...

Soccer players don't fake because they're pussies (they're not, they're actually quite tough). They fake because faking is effective.

FIFA could eliminate diving if they wanted to. Without slowing down the match, put a headset on the referee so that he can be in contact with a replay official. While the game continues, have a team of officials review fakes, dives and embellishment. Once they've identified a case, they could alert the referee, who at the next stoppage of play would immediately assess a red card to the guilty party for a fake, yellow for embellishment.

Then after every match, go over the replay carefully, and assess a suspension for every instance of embellishment. The faking would stop very quickly.

+1 ... i like your idea..but can't ever see FIFA implementing it... damn it took them 20 years to put another official on the sidelines... and don't get me started with goaline technology...

Your question is laughable. Hockey players skate at speeds of up to 30 km/h, they weigh anywhere from 160-270 lbs. it's a contact sport, there's hard ice to fall on, there's boards and glass to get crushed against, they carry sticks, the puck can travel over 160 km/h and you wonder why they wear protection? Compare that to what soccer players have to contend with. That's right, no comparison!

If hockey players staged/ faked the kind of nonsense that soccer players stage (regularly), they would be laughed off the ice and told to wear little pink dresses.

I would love to see a bunch of soccer players go toe to toe on both the ice and the soccor field with a bunch of NHL hockey players. I'd pay good money to see that.

Hockey players still don't pull the fake dives (ever) that soccer players do.

And as far as that goes, let the soccer players wear the same equipment as hockey players. Maybe they won't be such pussies then. (Cause they definitely come across as pussies.)

Watch No. 17. The guy gets NAILED, does a vertical 360 in the air, lands, and gets up and doesn't miss a beat. If that was any guy I saw on the field today, he would have ran home crying to mommy.

they do it to get a penalty and get a powerplay goal

in the nba they do it to get to the freethrow line or get a player to foul out

in soccer they do it to get the opposition a yellow/red card
