Grocery stores were the leaders in telling everyone to wear a mask. They couldn't enforce it because the government hadn't acted yet and still the significant majority were wearing them.

I believe they could enforce it just the same as "no shirts, no shoes, no service". And I saw it done.

I do wonder because the message has been consistent for 9 months now, wear a mask. For one month they said "no masks" but for the last 9 months "masks do work". Either people are really stupid or they are just against masks period and are are using the 1st month's recommendation as a lame excuse. Since when is 9 months of a consistent message "all of a sudden"?

And you pretend reality is something different. Masks became widely used by the start of June which corresponds quite well to the numbers. And are you now saying eye protection is useless too? Are you going to go back and edit all the posts you made on that topic?

Eye protection is only useless if it leaves large gaps from which contaminated air can infect you.

Thats simply not true. Wearing masks was encouraged, but wasnt enforced at all.
Even the TTC didnt make masks mandatory until July 2nd (so 12 days before the Ontario mandate)

You have to take a rolling average of 1 to 2 months after masks were mandated.

If people stayed indoors more and less people were going out shopping, then they would have less chance of spreading the virus also.

When I say other factors I'm mostly referring to colder weather which is more conducive to spreading a virus (hence the name "flu season")

The cold weather has nothing to do with Thanksgiving dinners, Hallowe'en parties, Xmas get togethers, New Years celebrations. All of which, you refuse to acknowledge. Not only that people get together but they are also much less likely to be wearing masks at these. You pin everything on masks and not human behaviour or should I say covidiot behaviour. It is not the failure of masks, it is the failure to comply. Please acknowledge.

Sadly it's not just the TJs of the world. I know a number of otherwise rational people who insist on wearing masks when out who somehow justify to themselves that get-togethers without masks are fine because their friends aren't sick.

This is very true. It happens all the time and this is what is causing much of the spread.

There is very clearly a strong causality between all the festive times from mid-October to Jan. 1 and the rise of cases. We had a huge spike that timed up perfectly with all those holidays and corresponding social gatherings where, as basketcase stated, people assumed that their friends and relatives were healthy and forewent covering up. It is no mere coincidence. All the while Phil says that people's behaviour didn't change so it was the fault of masks.

Another non-coincidence is now that there have been no holidays since, cases are dropping dramatically. Maybe Phil pulled the mask over his eyes when he fitted himself with the N95.

I've already told you earlier, the numbers should have gone down from the day masks were mandated, July 14th to about Sept. 14th.

Covid is airborne. If you have large gaps inside your mask from which infected air can escape then current masks people are wearing wont work, and the numbers clearly show that. Have a look at this graph, its from the German Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices (Bundesinstitut für Arzneimittel und Medizinprodukte). It clearly shows that surgical masks are only effective in stopping large droplets, but not liquid aerosols:

That is simply not true. Stores which required masks were a tiny minority, and it wasnt enforced.
We had just come out of a lengthy lockdown and stores desperately needed our bu$ine$$.
They very rarely refused customers for not wearing masks.

I'm not gonna keep beating a dead horse here, so my standard response to you and shack will be this from now on:

Current masks arent working. Mass-wearing of N95 masks is whats needed
