Interesting statement

If driver less cars stop accidents then no need for insurance which is what ? Average 2 grand per driver ? What will happen to repair shops and towing companies ?
Insurance is required for every car on the road every day you drive

Repair shops are used maybe once every 5 years by a normal driver (I'm sure they make far more in oil changes and tire rotations than actual repairs)

Tow trucks are far too overpopulated and herd should be thinned out

Insurance will always be required for anything where there is a possibility of something going wrong and getting damaged or someone being hurt. A driverless car may be programmed to avoid accidents but accidents may still happen or pedestrians get hit or malfunctions. This also assumes EVERYONE is in a driverless car which won't happen for some time.

Repair shops are not the same as mechanical shops. Repair shops have autobody workers who do repairs. Mechanics do mechanical/service stuff. Nobody at a repair shop does oil changes or tire rotations. But with the supposed reduction in accidents, yes both repair shops and tow truck drivers would see a huge drop in business.

Most tow truck drivers are scum - I've seen some pretty padded bills for doing nothing - the driver just trying to pull a fast one. But like anything else, the market will take care of things and so there's probably the number out there that's needed.

When driverless cars are a reality there will be fundamental changes to our economy and lifestyle.
Most families have multiple cars, there will no longer be a need for that.
Fewer cars mean car manufacturers will make less and transition to leasing rather than sales.
Fewer cars mean less parking lots, freeing up ALOT of real estate.
Fewer cars mean fewer roads, no need for 20 lane 401's, freeing up even more real estate.

Driverless cars,... does not mean people won't own driverless cars,... or two.

Don't we get many of the same benefits with Uber? I never considered myself much of an Uber guy, but in the last year or so it has become widespread enough in my home neighborhood to be consistently useful. Uber/Lyft make not owning a car a practical alternative in many suburban areas.
