Spread Sheets

Bear with me, this is escort/mp related ...

I use Excel for only two reasons. One is to track my net worth. The result indicates that I should not even be thinking about buying sex.

But I do, all the time. That leads to my other use for spread sheets which is to consolidate information on escorts I might want to see in a particular arer before I travel there. So I have been working on one for Toronto.

Now for my question. One column of my spread sheet contains the agency web site url. Another contains the agency's email address. It would sure be convenient if clicking on the url would take me to the site and clicking on the email address would open up a create mail OE window. My Excel, from Office 97 (I think), does not seem to have this capability. Nor will it let me save the file as an http table. Would a later version of Excel help? How about that new free office package from SUN?

(I don't mind sharing the spread sheet I have but it is very narrow in scope - I am very particlar - and it is no where near complete. Also, if you PM me in regards to this I will be away until mid-July.)

Thanks, Bob

I had used spreadsheets alot for organizing who to see when I am in Toronto keeping track of review highliights etc.

But I use a Word table. Works very well, url's auto convert to hyperlinks, can sort by name, my must see ranking, by agency of MP or any column. Seems much easier than using Excel.

Before anyone asks... I did not get it updated for this trip so now out of date. It is somewhat like the extensive Montreal Spreadsheet with hundreds on escort listings on my Montreal section of sexwork.com but mine for Toronto is much more extensive.

I can also use colored text for different levels of interest etc....

Bob, Katso is bang on about the web-connectivity patches....this patch will provide the functionality you're looking for. However, I don't believe it allows you to save your .xls spreadsheet as an HTML file.

As for Sun's "Star-Office" package....it does indeed include functionality and features similar to MS-Excel, including the web connectivity functions. However, its a pig of an application, IMHO of course. Huge memory requirements, lousy UI and although "compatible" with MS-Excel, enough minor differences that spreadsheets you're transferring back and forth between the two apps will only cause you extreme headaches.

Download the patches, or upgrade to v2000 of Excel which contains everything you need.

good luck,

Actually, Under File, a new option will appear called Save As HTML...
