That's an underwhelming trailer. So I guess that alien looking guy in the main antagonist?

It is a teaser trailer, so hopefully the full length one will do more to wet the palate.

I grew up watching Star Trek, and love it, but going back now they are comically camp and heavy handed and slooooow. I think JJ did a great job re-booting the franchise and bringing humor and pace to beloved characters (and the casting is spot on).
I liked the original series, Enterprise and TNG was my most favourite. Deep Space Nine and Voyager were weak IMHO.

JJ's first movie was great, Into Darkness was a bit weaker (lacked story and intrigue, but was fun visually). I'm going with the majority on this new trailer - too Fast and Furious for my tastes, but I guess they are targeting a younger audience than us older fans.

I can't get into Chris Pine. IMHO Too cocky, lacks "command presence" and outward confidence and doesn't seem to have a plan (as in not too bright) and a bit too emotional. Maybe Kirk could/did evolve from a total goof into our beloved Captain .... but I don't think so.

Zachary Quinto is amazing as Spock. He should deliver his lines a little slower and a little less sarcastically.

John Cho as Sulu is great.

Simon Pegg as Scotty. NO WAY IN HELL! I'm a huge Scotty fan and Simon just does not do it for me. Real Engineers are thoughtful, intelligent, wise, quiet, commanding, adaptive, crafty, ingenous, have massive sex-appeal and are always right. Pegg's character has none of these qualities.

I liked Almost Human. Good mixture of action, story, good characters, mystery...etc... too bad it was canned!

I'm stoked about Star Wars...but not gonna fight the real die hard fans....will likely watch in mid Jan. The Star Trek one will likely be a download though. Can't seem to get my family interested in these kinds of movies.
BTW, there is a new Star Trek Series "Constellation" scheduled for 2017 in development.

I also enjoyed Almost Human. I'm generally not into Cop shows, but the characters were likeable. Off topic: I just hate the way that most (not all) TV Cop shows made in the last 10 years portray Cops as aggressive, violent, law-breaking thugs that get convictions through gathering of illegal evidence and beaten confessions. Not all shows are like that, but too many. For example Expanse has a cop character that exactly fits that profile so far. Other than Gibbs are there no thinking Cop characters?

A little more off topic: One of my favourite shows for Character development was Magnum PI. Someone told me about a ~10 years ago, I download the first season and I loved it and watched the rest. Strong interesting characters that played off each other very nicely. I can't describe why, but I really like that show.

Way off topic. ..what about the Blacklist? This season so far is freaking awesome.
Only watched the first few episodes. I didn't like James Spader's character and felt the show was a cheap rip-off of Silence of the Lambs. I heard it's got quite a following now, so I guess I should have stuck with it.

I enjoyed the first two by Abrams, but that trailer was pretty bad. I'll definitely wait to see this one on video.

I liked the first JJ Abrams ST but I see what people are saying when they say that these movies don't have the same vibe or spirit of the other TV shows.

JJ did a better job with Star Wars he gave the fans exactly what they wanted.

Say what you will about Jeri Ryan I think she is attractive.

Unlike Abrams McTreks the third installment is written by Simon Pegg. For that reason I'm prepared to give this a chance.
UH huh. And directed by the guy who directed The Fast and the Furious. For that reason I'm prepared to avoid this like week-old mayonnaise in the sun. I wonder why they are being so coy about where they are planning to take the franchise. Why not just hand the fucking next one to Michael Bay and be done with it already?

Michael Bay, please allow the franchise some dignity!

With Elba and Pegg I'll give it a chance. WatchMojo is absolutely correct, Prometheus would have been a much better film if Idris's Captain had been better developed.

it makes perfect business sense. they are trying to garner the next generation of ST fans who belong to the videogame/ADD culture. it's all about non-stop explosions, noise, shocking scenes to keep their attention. character development and story line play second fiddle.
the trailer itself has the feel of a video game you would play on ps4 or xbox1.

i suppose if it turns on a few kids to find out more about the ST world and watch TOS, TNG, DS9 then i guess it ain't a bad thing.

not enough going on for me that i would bother seeing it in the theatre. will wait for the blueray release.

Like others here, I'm not impressed by the JJA reboot of Star Trek. If JJA had done the original series, every episode would have been The Doomsday Machine, only with less plot and more stuff blowing up. There never would have been classics like The City on the Edge of Forever and the Trouble With Tribbles.

Having said that, I'll probably go to see Beyond, but I'll probably forget all about it within a few days.

I pretty much agree with James T. Kirk and Kathleen (oh I need to get off my ass and see kathleen too).

However, I also liked the short-lived series Enterprise with Scott Bakula!

The Enterprise ship must be the equivalent to a navy Aircraft carrier - huge complicated and expensive yet every film Kirk trashes the ship then gets a new one to trash the next movie. I wouldn't trust him with a garbage scowl !

My favourite trekie alien is still T'pal

But didn't they shoot his cremated ass into space?

And btw, I still think 6 of 9 was incredibly hot.
1 I think so

2 He will start to roll over when the radio signals of the Beyond movie reach him

3 Is there a 6 of 9 ?

4 Jeri Ryan was 7 of 9 and the character was hot but Jeri Ryan is not without suit and makeup

5 How was the Beyond film? All action and no real plot ?

6 Best Trek was Picard and his encounters with Q. Made you think.

Janeway was second

Kirk third and then the other one

7 Of the movies the only good one, that I saw, was the one where Picard and Kirk were together

Great movie, cast/characters have jelled with a mixture of laughs and a STORY in the finest tradition of StarTrek. The only thing I will say is that you don't need to sit there for the trailers to roll, not surprise at the end.
