and apparently they no longer come from Eastern Europe, Western Europe, Russia, the US or Caribbean... 58% come from Middle East and/or Asia.

Canada needs more people. The ones born here are not having more children because having children will lower the lifestyle these individuals are enjoying.

Look at the school system. Lower enrolment because less children. A few Toronto schools are emptied. As I recall most couples these days are having one children which isn't enough to replace the parents. The federal government recognizes this population shortfall that's why they re-introduce the $2000 Federal Child Tax Credit in the 2007 Federal Budget to encourage couples to review: Making Babies 101.

Canada Pension Plan and Old Age Security do need more heartbeats to support the aging Canadian population.

Another issue, immigrants (from the Middle East or Asia) tend to work six or seven days a week because they have a different work ethic.

Furthermore, the privilege immigrants (from affluent families) come to Canada start businesses and hoard real estates.

And I don't see why anyone would see this as a bad thing. People are people no matter where you live.

1 in 5 are foreign born and many of those foreign born are not whites from the UK or Europe. And many of those non-white foreign born people have been here long enough to be either parents or grandparents. And many white Canadians are pairing up with non-whites. Soon we will be so inter-bred, nobody will be talking about race anymore. Interesting times ahead.

I sure hope so though we will find new things to discriminate against each other (money seems an obvious one). I doubt that small town Canada will be that quick to multiculturalize. Even parts of the city are pretty much rich and white.

Why is this a surprise? This country was built and will continue to be built on immigration. And as was previously said, Canada needs immigrants to support the economy.
