I can't blame the guy... In my university days, I lost more than one assignment because of a Windows crash.

This is an old joke, but a good one..

In response to Bill's comments, General Motors issued a press release stating: If GM had developed technology like Microsoft, we would all be driving cars with the following characteristics:

1. For no reason whatsoever, your car would crash twice a day.

2. Every time they repainted the lines in the road, you would have to buy a new car.

3. Occasionally your car would die on the freeway for no reason. You would have to pull over to the side of the road, close all of the car windows, shut it off, restart it, and reopen the windows before you could continue. For some reason you would simply accept this..

4. Occasionally, executing a manoeuvre such as a left turn would cause your car to shut down and refuse to restart, in which case you would have to reinstall the engine.

5. Only one person at a time could use the car unless you bought "CarNT," but then you would have to buy more seats.

6. Macintosh would make a car that was powered by the sun, was reliable, five times as fast and twice as easy to drive - but would only run on 5% of the roads.

7. The oil, water temperature, and alternator warning lights would all be replaced by a single "General Protection Fault" warning light.

8. New seats would force everyone to have the same sized butt.

9. The airbag system would ask "are you SURE?" before deploying.

10. Occasionally, for no reason whatsoever, your car would lock you out and refuse to let you in until you simultaneously lifted the door handle, turned the key and grabbed hold of the radio antenna.

11. GM would require all car buyers to also purchase a deluxe set of Rand McNally Road maps (now a GM subsidiary), even though they neither need nor want them. Attempting to delete this option would immediately cause the car's performance to diminish by 50% or more. Moreover, GM would become a target for investigation by the Justice Dept.

12. Every time GM introduced a new car, car buyers would have to learn to drive all over again because none of the controls would operate in the same manner as the old car.

13. You'd have to press the "Start" button to turn the engine off.

LOL!
Then switch to something else.
Since switching to linux both MS and pricier Apple become more and more irrelevant with each passing day. You really don't need either, plus linux is free....

I saw that the egg thrower missed him. Doesn't that kid know math? When you throw an egg at Steve Balmer, you hit him with it.

Well unregulated laissez faire capitalistic monopolies tend to act that way. Just look at the way BIG OIL is 'hosing' everyone right now. That's why I suggested linux, to escape the MS corporate caprice you are experiencing.
Linux is innovative, bug/virus free and doesn't cost a penny.....;)

How are the apps choices? I have a Mac at home and love it - expensive but super stable.... and the 23" screen is awsome...

Linux is MORE stable than a Mac, you can get whatever size screen you desire just like a Mac or PC.
Linux, like Mac is spyware/malware/virus free.
No need to defrag the HDD. I don't miss doing the endless; anti-virus, Adaware, Spybot Search & Destroy, CCleaner, Registry Mechanic, etc., scans needed on Windows.

Apps selection is unbelievable and ALL FREE also.
Mac turned me off because all their apps are even more pricy than Windows.

Linux does things a bit different with apps since they are free.
Most distros come fully loaded with hundreds of apps and programs.
On Windows you go into 'add & remove' in XP and you see ONLY the apps installed on your PC.
On linux, at least Ubuntu, when you go into 'add & remove' you see a couple hundred apps and programs! The ones installed on your PC have a 'checkmark'. The 'unchecked' apps and programs are also listed with descriptions of what they do. If you decide you want to try one of them 'unchecked' apps, you just click a 'checkmark' in the box, then hit the 'apply change' button and linux installs that specified app automatically! If you decide you don't like an app, you go into 'add & remove' and 'uncheck' it, then hit apply changes and linux removes that specified app for you automatically. No need to run off and buy that added software, it's already included for free!
You can install other apps that may not be listed by default and they are added to this list.
It's really a nice setup.
