Stop using the phrase global warming

In a place far, far away

An Arctic front will bring snow and cold temperatures to Western Canada for the next several days. Make sure you are properly dressed if going outside for any amount of time, and in some areas, keep the shovels handy and the snowblowers on standby.

A dangerous week is setting up on the Prairies as a piece of the polar vortex allows exceptionally cold air to spill over the region. We could see our first -50°C reading in eight years in the coming days, a testament to the might of this looming cold snap.

DON'T MISS: Could a frigid lead-up to Christmas leave Canada coated in snow?

The atmospheric floodgates will swing open Saturday and allow bitterly cold air to spill south over the western half of Canada.

This pattern shift will first arrive with a bout of snow spreading across much of British Columbia, Alberta, and Saskatchewan to kick-start the weekend. Snowfall will linger into Sunday for many areas. B.C. will face another opportunity for accumulating snow on Tuesday.

STAY SAFE: Understanding the warning signs of frostbite

However, temperatures will far outshine the snow potential across the Prairies as readings drop to dangerously low levels heading into next week.

Daytime highs will struggle to climb out of the minus-20s for much of Alberta and Saskatchewan throughout the week.

The coldest temperatures are expected by midweek, when folks could endure temperatures dipping below -30°C, and possibly even to -40°C or below in the overnight hours. Any winds will make temperatures feel even colder.

43

Communities in the valleys of northern Yukon, including Dawson and Mayo, could see temperatures drop to or below -50°C this week. This would be the first reading of -50°C or colder in Canada since February 2014, when Eureka, Nunavut, hit -50.4°C.

Air temperatures this cold will threaten the health and safety of anyone who spends too long outdoors, even folks who are acclimated to the bitter chill. Frostbite on exposed skin can occur in as little as two minutes when temperatures or wind chill values dip to -40 or below.

The extreme cold should relax in time for the Christmas weekend.

Check back for the latest on the impending snow and dangerous cold across Western Canada.

“Locally “ and “globally” should not be confused for scientific or political purposes.

The climate has always been in dynamic change for millions of years . Is mankind catalyzing this change, probably?

Can anyone give and example of any glaciers that are actually growing? It is apparent that many glaciers around the world are rapidly shrinking at an accelerating rate.

@hamermill the lefties will tell you it's not global warming anymore, it's climate change. That way they cover their ass for either hot weather or cold.
I'm sure it won't be too long before they come up with another term as they can't make up their mind.

That is my point - not global warning but it is climate change. Regardless we are screwed and that idiot will make up pay for it.

Consumer-survivor, used to describe psychiatric outpatients, or perhaps a catch-all for low income adults. This might refer to the fact that many of them spend 90%+ of their monthly income within five days or so of when they get a Government cheque, then they try to mooch off each other for the next three and a half weeks. To me, it sounds like a self-esteem boosting term for cannibal.

The problem is NOT the terminology. The problem is that there are a bunch of people out there who are just so confident in themselves that they think that they can do one little "experiment" and make sweeping conclusions about anything. A major problem with these people is that they already have the conclusion before they think (if they actually do that) about anything. Critical thinking is certainly not their strong suit. They have zero training in anything (let alone the scientific method) and think that they can make sweeping statements about global warming (which is true, despite regional observations), social media, mental health, the Ukraine war, the price of gas, anything, really.

The overall most important advice in the 21st century is this: NEVER trust a douchebag.....if we had done this, Global Warming would have been taken seriously years ago.

No we won’t. We will sit back and quietly laugh at the people who do not understand the difference between climate and weather.

What was this one experiment with the climate.

Actually, I think that it's basically impossible to do an experiment on the climate.

I'm sure that there have been thousands and thousands of studies.

Here are just a few examples:

It is cold for one day and someone exclaims that Global Warming is a hoax.
Some jackass brings a snowball into the U.S. senate building and claims that Global Warming is a hoax.
These are the experiments (and conclusions) to these people.

This is the truth: The overall climate is warming and therefore, the overall globe is warming. The phrase "Global Warming" is absolutely a fact and will be no matter what anyone says or claims about it. Local temperature fluctuations are not the overall trend.

Impossible to do an experiment on the climate? Are you high? Just because you do not see them personally does not mean they are not being conducted. Think about satellites and what some of them do every single day. They are conducting observations on the climate over time and are producing models on how the climate will change based on these observations. This is an experiment. Making observations and producing models to explain those observations (and hypotheses) is the experiment. The data suggests that the globe is warming at an accelerated rate. This is the reality.

Anyone who wishes to dispute the observations or modelling should collect their own data over a number of years and THEN proclaim that the data suggests that Global Warming is not real. Absolutism and conspiracy theories will never stop the cold (or warm in this case) reality.

Not an experiment in the normal sense, but there are large global events that disrupt global climate and scientists use that to benchmark their models.

One such event was a big volcano going off in the Philippines, Mount Pinatubo or something.

Doing an experiment and making observations of what is already happening without making any changes are two completely different things.

You were clearly not trained in science and have no idea what you are talking about.

Anyone who wishes to dispute the observations or modelling should collect their own data over a number of years and THEN proclaim that the data suggests that Global Warming is not real. Absolutism and conspiracy theories will never stop the cold (or warm in this case) reality.
And you think that nobody has been making observations of the climate already for years and years? Hahahaha.

Unfortunately, how people deal with it, is very different than trying to understand what is actually happening. I believe that this thread is dealing more with understanding why and what is happening than individual hypocrisy.

But trying to divert is not an uncommon tactic even if inappropriate.
