Don't have a lot of experience with beach holidays...but I loved Bali.
Puerto Vallarta.....great bars, great restaurants, and if you pick the right hotel, you're far enough from the malacon to miss the crowds but if you want the action, it's a 10 peso bus ride.....

Sorry, I usually do it differently.

Pack up the backpack and into the wilderness for a week with the GPS and bare minimums. Catch fish, rabbits, do some hiking, swimming etc. Picture Survivor Man with a tent, compound bow, fishing rod, and some other useful stuff.

I don't quite go that far, just a cottage in a non-touristy area. The other thing I've done is just get in the car and drive until I find somewhere I want to stop.

Desire Resort in Cancun. Adults only, clothing-optional, all inclusive. Great private beach, for resort guests only.

Tadoussac, Chéticamp, or Baddeck - oh, you want warm water - never mind
Sorry I've spent enough time in Cape Breton, and It does nothing for me.
There are almost ZERO good restaurants, and the Hotels, leave Much to be desired.
On the Upside I could have Tea with Rita McNeil!:p

Summer vacation in the Caribbean or Mexico? That's just weird. I would suggest French or Italian riviera/Cote d'Azur. Topless beaches, hotties, dining and fabulous hotels.

Love to...Cote d'Azur would be wonderfull.
But Mexico and The Carribean are not as crowded in the Summer.
Also With the depressed American Dollar, a better deal.

For that reason you'll see a lot of Europeans there too. If you don't mind 55 year old German women, who don't believe in bras, topless on the beach, it's OK. Germans are crazy they love a summer holiday in 42 degrees C weather.

Ah, probably true save perhaps for the Keltic Lodge. However, there are other advantages such as the scenery. The Five Fishermen in Halifax is a decent Restaurant. A number of years ago, I saw someone's au pair (or I shudder to think daughter) out with the family and younger children there dressed in the most hookeresque outfit I've ever seen in public (short skirt, black stockings, garters a stretch of bare thigh)!
