Sympatico DSL Blows...

How on earth does Sympatico get away with claiming they're as fast as cable?

I switched over from Rogers to Sympatic to take advantage of their 'One Rate' promo, and it's been a nightmare ever since.

I've spent the last two hours trying to upload a full site, when on cable I'd have been done in half the amount of time, if that. This is on top of the regularly occuring system disconnects which have plagued me since I hooked them up.

This blows. I'm getting cable back, pronto.

Rogers all the way...

I say Rogers all the way.

While we did have some probs at first... (the first couple weeks we were hooked up) after they worked out all the bugs... it's been fantastic. I have digital TV and high speed internet. We have 4 computers and 4 TVs hooked up. Only my TV has the digital box... but all the computers are hooked up to high speed. And yes they do know. The cable guy came out and hooked them all up himself. They had to put a amp on my line to give more power to the digital box. (no extra charge) How good is that?

Good idea.... go back to cable.

Ummmmmm. As a former advocate and sales person for 'grey area dishes' I never thought I would hear myself plugging cable. lol.

It all depends on your location. The farther you are from a relay station, the slower your speed is. Also, sympatico has a cap for downloads and once you go over that cap, they start charging you (don't know how much though). Rogers has no such thing. And personally, as a gamer, cable is the way to go.

Yes, there is. A buddy of mine has DSL and is happy with it but on the contract (fine print) it says there is a cap.
If i am wrong please tell me how? I'll admit if i am wrong.
you're wrong.

the contract is an old contract and Bell can change the terms of the contract.

From the Bell wesbite.

Unlimited bandwidth usage - enjoy as much video, music and files as you want

There was a press release a while ago changing from a cap to no cap.

I thought cable was always faster than DSL. Why the confusion?
cable has higher bandwidth than DSL but the issue is that w/DSL you have your own dedicated line with all that bandwith yours only. Cable is often shared with other users in the vacinity so the more people logged on, the more traffic and slowers speed.

Sympatico no longer has a cap. They used to but they changed their policy recently.

I've had few complaints with Sympatico. BBWM, are you sure you don't have a worm or a virus? A friend of mine recently hooked up with Sympatico, and somehow ended up with a worm. It made surfing unimaginably slow.

No, I do system maintenance too often for there to be a worm or trojan screwing up my speed. Bell's the only worm in *this* situation slowing me down.

I have a new G5 coming in two weeks, but trust me - I'll be back on cable long before then.

In my dreams, I'm connected via a T3, making all of this moot...

Sympatico service bulletins...

Here is the link directly from sympatico's site talking about the removal of the cap on their High Speed Regular and Ultra services. They still have a cap for Sympatico Basic DSL.

www.service.sympatico.ca/ServiceUpdate/ServiceUpdate-Content.cfm?SUID=61&SUCategoryID=11

Here's another link for all you sympatico users who are interested, Sympatico High Speed will go from 1meg to 3 meg download, and those on Ultra will go from 3meg to 4meg.

www.service.sympatico.ca/ServiceUpdate/ServiceUpdate-Content.cfm?SUID=117&SUCategoryID=11

Just to put in my two cents, I've had sympatico for 2 1/2 years and it's been good to me so far. Crossing my fingers.

Sympatico's regular High Speed Edition doesn't have the caps on the bandwidth anymore... not for a long time....

besides... cable or phone DSL internet is all the same shit! As with the SP hobby, YMMV with DSL internet no matter who you choose.... everybody has their different experiences.

Sympatico DSL upload speeds are far slower than their dl speeds, so if uploading is a priority it may not be for you. Having said that I upload a lot and it's very acceptable.

I had Rogers cable for a few years and finally got rid of it, before I had a nervous breakdown. It sucks. In my area, at least, during peak times you're lucky if you can make a fuckin post. Combined with their pathetic technical help, who kept insisting it was my computer I detest Rogers.

I've had Sympatico for almost a year and most of the time I forget I'm on the net. I've had possibly a handful of extremely brief connection problems over the year, but compared to Rogers nonsense its just a blink.

I used to get charged for going over the cap almost every month, then one day, much to my surprise, they stopped charging.

YMMV
