Tangerine Dream who used to dance in the Ottawa/Montreal area before going on tour has been arrested on immorality charges for using a dildo during performances in Nfld, and apparently Quebec. Just goes to show how different communities have different standards/set of laws in Canada.

Too bad that as a result of the charges her name was made public. Guess it's a risk you take.

Sounds like the Cops in St. John's, Nfld. had nothing better to do. You know they got to love raiding strip clubs & pulling naked chicks off the stage all covered in whip cream with a huge dildo in hand :D Well you know she just might have killed someone with that huge dildo if they hadn't bust in just in time to save everyone’s life!

this goes on in ontario as well, it just doesn't seem to get any press.

The arrest is part of the promotion, isn't it? :)
I hope there's a cross Canada tour in the works, I'll pay a twenty dollar cover.

Tours?

Tangerine is still doing tours? I thought she retired a few years ago... Her event list on her web site looks like the same as when I last saw her around 1998. She announced her retirement at that time.

Anybody knows if she was planning visiting Ontario (once released)... Anyone saw her doing shows in 2004 or 2005?

Do you seriously think she purposely arranged for the 30 or so police officers to show up at the club and arrest her for publicity ?
Bad publicity is good publicity!
Now everyone across Canada knows who she is thanks to the Cops & CBC :p

Since it’s a vague part of the Criminal Code that they based her arrest on; if and when she goes to trial her case might if she wins cause her to go down in the Law Books as “Tangerine Dream vs. the People” where she cause a change to the way the code is interpreted.

The Dildo is mightier then the Sword!

As someone who lives in NF for much of the year, I can say that you are right. A couple of years ago, the RNC launched a major undercover operation (over 40 officers for a duration of months) to bust a bunch of high school students for using pot. The club this girl works in is the first to really allow contact dances (a few weeks ago, the local CBC station did a three night investigation on their local news program on the contact dances) although the B string stays on for the dances. They really do need more to do.

Now in orderfor this to be a crime, we need to define a victim? Who is the victim? She performed in privately owned clubs that clearly advertise their choice of venue. Who walked in and was so shocked with whatthey saw that they felt they needed police protection?

Wives who won't seem quite the same after this performance?

Well you cant blame the dancer's routine on that. After all what are these husbands doing there in the first place? Would they be any more inclined to rush their woody home to the wife if the dancer wasn't demonstrating her toys?

the victims are the dancers who are charged and who actually spend time in jail awaiting bail and paying fines for these alleged obscenities.

You're wrong. That's not how criminal law works. The Crown has to demonstrate the commission of a guilty act and that there was a guilty mind (i.e. a criminal act was committed and there was intent). The section of the Criminal Code she was charged with comes under crimes against the community.

True, but the lack of victim is important when considering a penalty or dismissing the case.

obscenity laws are there to protect the community. That is who the victim would B considered 2 B. The lack of an individual victim is almost always the case with this type of charge so it doesn't mitigate the sentence.
