U.S. District Court Judge Emmet Sullivan has appointed Henry F. Schuelke III, a partner at Janis, Schuelke and Wechsler in Washington to begin criminal contempt proceedings against six lawyers involved in the original prosecution of Senator Stevens all are career federal prosecutors, including the Chief and Deputy Chief of the Public Integrity Section.
Judge Sullivan also stated he was taking this action because the Department of Justice had not, and that the alleged prosecutorial misconduct was too serious and too egregious to be left merely to an Office of Professional Responsibility investigation with no oversight.
