Hey. I'm considering Telus as my cellphone service provider.

for a long term service. what plan do you guys recommend I take?

I am hoping to avoid any contracts as I severely disapprove of them.

Thanks!

Your going to have to buy the phone outright from like 200 and up.

then there is various plans depending on your needs. i suggest going to the website.

Talk 30 is pretty good.

Just remember there is no cap for ending a contract with Telus. $20 a month for the remainder of the term. If you start one you'd better like it ;) Other than that their plans are pretty good. I have an old style Talk 30 plan that still includes Caller ID and V-Mail and added data as I have the Moto Q. They also have one of those fav-5 things that can be really good for families.

Feels good to be able to see Bell's rival do so well on their turf!

Is the S.A.F. really necessary?

I have heard of people going on 2yr contracts and somehow the S.A.F. is waived which tells me that it is an unnecessary $7-$8 expense.

i have 4 phones with Telus 350 minutes a month, unlimited telus to telus, unlimited evenings after 6 and weekends, free business bundle 10 ( voice mail three way, call forwarding and caller id) and unlimited data on 2 devices for 135 after taxes a month.
Roges was trying to get me to move my account and when i told them the package.... they hung up.

Canada seems to be the land of the 3-year plan.

If you sign a contract, they give you the phone plus other goodies. If you go month to month, you have to buy the phone and you get no breaks. You need a network provider and they all seem pretty competitive these days. Might as well pick one you like and stay with them a few years.

Besides, you can make changes to your plan anytime if your needs change.

Here's another alternative.

Take over somebody else's contract. Some people will even pay you to take it.

SAF = System Access Fee. This is not a true charge to access any thing but their service. All the mobilie phone companies will charge this for the most part. Koodoo (which is actually Telus) and I beileve Solo (which is actually Bell Mobility) will just not charge this fee. The only negative there is that you don't have as much rate plan/handset choice with these companies as you do with their parent companies. But if they have what works for you go for it. You will not find a difference service wise between Bell vs Solo and Telus vs Koodoo. Rogers - I just hate them in general...years after being screwed for Cable I am still bitter.

My plan is similar, also spoke with Rogers same response. My take on it is as follows. Rogers has the system that allows you to change out sim card, and has the best coverage. Telus is not bell and has free incoming calls. I have been with telus for about 7 years, since it was clearnet is a good company, lessor of the three evils in my opinion. I also always sign up for 2 years instead of 3 and demand the same prices.

I've had a Pay & Talk Telus account for over 2 years now and am very happy with it. I like the company and they give REAL incentives to their customers. To sign up for Pay & Talk it was $150 even: that covered all my fees, the phone and $75 to spend ont the account. One of their "evenings & weekends" plan starts at 6pm, ends at 8am (maybe 7am)and is $30 for 30 days so I didn't have to put more money on it for 2 months after I got it. On 2 occasions when I was dialed into the auto-updater putting more money on the account, I got a voicemail from them saying thanks for being a customer and the next time I topped up the card I would get a month of the free evenings & weekends on them. Their roll-over policy is easy & fair; you can get the cards anywhere. When the battery on my started to go, I noticed I was getting calls from them saying I accumulated almost $100 towards a new phone - redeemable ANYTIME. No expiration date.

All the shit I went through with Rogers and how they treat their customers... and this is how Telus is.I really think the people who live in Toronto proper (and any part of the GTA where your service would be coming from Rogers , even a reseller) should get organized and file a class action suit against the company, each one of their executive officers AND Teddy himself especially.

Telus has great customer service but I am leery about their network since it is limited to Canada. If you're never going to need cellphone service outside of this country then it's a great choice otherwise...

There's talk that they may change the underlying technology of their network but that's just talk for now.

My 3 year renewal comes up in August, but they've told me I can actually renew now. I can't decide on which phone to get, I surely don't want one of those "huge" Crackberry's.

Don't know what you are talking about dude - I've used my telus and mike network all over north america....
Ahh ok...sorry...bit more research shows that outside of North America it's a GSM world while in N. America CDMA is still widely available. As for using my Telus phone in the US, it doesn't work, guess it depends on your plan.
