This sounds tougher.....

then the efforts to "unit the right"!!!
Who would "bestow" the mantle of "credible" poster?
You? Me? Rusty?
Would this be a political position someone could "run" for?
Maybe if Belinda doesn't get as the new "Conservative-Alliance-Reform" leader she would take a shot at it!!!

As long as you browse TERB often, I think it's fairly easy to determine credibility.

Of course you may still have some qualms about the poster:

* # of posts
* registration date
* posts you recall
* posting in different sections

Just take a look at the posters on this thread! btw, I'm not sure about my credibility, and you shouldn't trust "The Rusty Tomb".

If you're looking for opinions, mine is that user awards in the context of this board is a bad idea.

The board is pretty fine the way it is. I don't see any BIG problems here to date.

credibility? You mean everything on TERB isn't real? Next thing you'll tell me is that stuff on TV is fake.

Dear Sara

Sara are you saying you don't know any credible posters? I think if you awarded a roomates icon I for one would read the post more carefully. I think that would give considerable weight to their opinion.

Why do you read reviews if you can't trust anyone except yourself? Maybe I didn't understand your post.

If I were buying an eggplant and you had a credible friend, would you not reccomend him? You pass on the advice, I respect your opinion, I get a good eggplant. You get the satisfaction of helping. Thats the way our reviews work.

The big thing is that I get to see the reviewers though your eyes.

Two points:

1) I think the only way to determine credibility is experience.... If you read a flattering post about someone from a member, and you have had a similar situation, it adds credibility to that member. If the same member has another good post about another provider you're more likely to consider them credible.

The opposite would apply for bad reviews.

2) What you consider a credible or accurate comment depends on what your looking for. If you want Xtra high milage and don't get it you may consider a good review from someone who want eye candy more the milage.. not credible. If you know the member that posted and know they like eye candy rather then milage then you personally can put less weight to thier review.

To read any single review here and expect to somehow know that its valid or not is impossible.

Experience counts...

I find that personal experience is, as others have said, the only guaranteed way to form an accurate impression. However, if we go back to the days when there were no review boards, we'd all be feeling our way in the dark and kissing a lot of frogs along the way.

We all know that there are some providers in this hobby that make their money by posting enticing ads and providing poor service. They don't much repeat business but they get many first-time customers who leave some of their money behind after a bad experience.

Without review boards, we would each learn about many bait-and-switch operations the old fashioned way; that is, by wasting our time ands our money.

I have found that the best way to benefit from the reviews is to mix the knowledge posted on this board with the personal knowledge gained from the hobby. It did not take long to find other members who have reviewed some of the same SPs and who have an opinion similar to mine. Once I identified other TERBites with whom I share some common tastes, I was able to read some other reviews of theirs (of women I had not yet met) and use this information to guide my future hobbying.

While I have not had 100% satisfaction with every encounter, I certainly know that my success and satisfaction rate is much higher since I discovered review boards (and TERB in particular).

The is no such thing as complete credibility and, as always, YMMV. Still, if used wisely, the review boards can be an excellent and helpful tool.

Zog.

more than one...

I usually see or read reviews here on a "more than one" basis...

a good review is posted and it's the only one...I pass...

a bad review is posted and it's the only one...I pass...

I believe many are here to enjoy the experience and the majority will post honestly to convey the "thumbs up or down" for providers in whatever form...

no one is 100 percent credible to their posts...everything has bias...maybe in one's mind to compare the experience to what they have already read and then post...or doctor up a review to gain a consensus...

I am here as well almost daily and can most times weed out the bad from the good...

in most cases I don't even read threads that some "questionable posters" post to...waste of time...

sps have a bad client list...maybe we should have a bad poster list for the members....

Zog has it right. These boards are the most useful by keeping bad experiences to a minimum, thus increasing ones enjoyment of the hobby. All else is a bonus, IMHO.

Icons & Egos.... out here in the KW badlands, "we don't need no stinking ratings"!

I'm an occassional poster at best, but when I do post, other locals know that YMMV always applies. I think most of us already understand this

Doesn't take long for me and others, I think, to figure out who's a shill, who's maybe LE and who we CAN rely on for open and frank reviews... thanx calloway, CEO,8.5, holden, dickey and the rest of you...

IMHO adding more just means longer wait times
