Just a wee Tesla recall on self driving software was announced this week.
All must not be well in the house of X these days.

Agreed, they're just not ready.

That said, a scary reality most people aren't ready to accept is the cold hard truth:
Self-driving cars don't need to be perfect. They just need to be better than us.

In Canada we see roughly 10,000 "serious" injuries and deaths.
As soon as self-driving cars are even marginally better than us, lives will be saved and we'll see less injuries. Self-driving cars will therefore still lead to car-related injuries and deaths. But fewer injuries and deaths is the goal. if we wait until self-driving cars are perfect (which may or may not be possible) we'll continue to see unnecessary injury and death caused by human drivers which we know suck balls at staying safe. (Not you, of course. You're a great driver. I mean everyone else.)

China are already a step ahead when they approved self driving taxis:

Maybe Tesla will learn from their technology.

I gather that means self-driving cars will kill fewer people. There is one
predicament I anticipate though. Who are to be hold responsible for
death caused by imperfect self-driving cars rolling over pedestrians?

Tesla will always cover itself from litigation by mentioning in the fine print that the driver is still required to pay attention and the car cannot be expected to function at a 100% always. So the driver would ultimately be liable I suppose. Or the pedestrian if they were in the wrong somehow

Mercedes is taking legal liability if their autonomous shit goes south, I do not know the details and caveats of their legal coverage. In terms of Autonomous driving certification, level 0 to level 5, Tesla has one of the lowest ratings @ level 2, honda surpassed Tesla in 2021 with level 3 certification. Tesla moved away from using lidar in favor of using cameras only to save on costs, so their new models probably offer worse self driving capabilities than older models.

Tesla is just coasting on their brand name and technology BS right now eventually they will have to compete based on price and quality like everyone else. Now Tesla is pivoting to making cringe robots using the same AI technology that did not work for self driving.

Please stop spreading misinformation and actually look into things for yourself. You sound like you regurgitated everything from the MSM.

And people are worried about AI taking over our jobs! AI can’t even drive a car. People with IQ lower than 80 can get a driver’s license. AI is far from being more than a threat to entertainment.

I do agree.

The problem with self-driving cars is insurance. Will the insurer be fine to cover a car that you are not driving?
Or will you accept to be liable for an accident the car was responsible for while not being physically driving it?

I do not know in other countries or provinces but in Quebec car insurance liability is mandatory. So as the owner of the car, you will become liable even if you sent the car to pick up your kid at school while drinking your beer on the sofa...

Tesla has been lying about how close full self-driving is for years.
Why would they stop now?
Musk as been setting expectations and missing them in all sorts of ways for ages. I would be amazed that people still hold him to be a god, if I had any respect for humanity.

Both as eco darling of the left and now as darling of the right, I'd always had little respect for his cultists.
All the cool cultists worship Cthulhu

AI won't take your job away.....yet. But AI will surely change the skillset necessary to continue to have a job very soon. Eventually, people who can learn to work with AI will get the jobs and you won't.

I agree with you yet how does it relate to my post?

I have been working in IT for 25 years now. AI will surely be a big factor in the working world yet will become a nightmare from a IP/insurance point of view.

The owner of a robot that creates death or damage will get sued. Which in turn will sue the developer which will defend themselves saying it was badly ‘educated’…

I replied to the wrong message. My bad. I meant to quote the message previous to yours.
