I simply don't have a seperate work number as I need my smart phone for work not a burner and don't want to risk some troll finding out my name because they have a buddy that works as a PI or for the phone company. Stuff like that happens unfortunately, some girls I know even were outed cuz a client ran their license plate. I don't accept text apps and don't recommend any provider accept them unless they already know the client or thoroughly screen them, there's just no way to know someone isn't fake booking you or a previously blacklistted guy when they book anonymously with a text app and most no show/cancel last minute honestly because there's no respect.
What if they send a private investigator after you, who comes to see you like a client and records your face with a hidden camera, and then finds your real identity with that visual?

Voip.ms.
You get a real # (647) or can port a real # over.
Use Csimsimple for phone calls and voip.ms sms for texting.
Is uses your data for calls, and you pay for time usage, 50 USD usually last me a year, but will depend on your usage.
You can also log into website and send/receive texts.

Toronto
$0.85 per month for #
$0.009 per minute for calls
SMS free for now (been several years like this)

I remember I tried calling/texting from a TextNow account a long time ago, and the agencies could tell right away that I was using a texting app.

How are they able to figure it out?
I've found that texting/ calling apps do not show up on Whatsapp.....so that's one way to know.

TeeJay, doesn't the network record your phone's IMEI number regardless?
???

Uh yeah but I fail to see how this is relevant? It would be difficult for even police unless you were stupid and direct dialed 911...

EG I am under Bell and have phone number 555-1234 assigned to me
I spoof number 666-1234 and call you
You get search warrant to look up 666-1234 which traces back to Telus, you serve Telus with a warrant, and they say nope that number never called you at that time/date
Now what? Call trap is way expired and quite frankly I am skeptical even police would be able to look you up after all this time has elapsed

Unless you were call trapping (which costs $5 PER CALL) or had access to CQS I would not really think its an issue to me

Its very easy to match a phone number to a name
You would be amazed how many providers take the "free phone" which means they give up name / address / date of birth / sin / credit card / credit score / etc

Unless provider is using a burner phone as well (which if I was in industry I certainly would) anyone can find anyone should they wish to
Thats why I always say txt app or spoof your number
Its silly otherwise to call from your real number

I use fongo to receive texts from already screened clients. It's very obvious my number is not a standard toronto area code and number. I have had problems occaisionally receiving text messages from clients, sometimes the push notification doesn't go through right away and has showed up hours later or the next day. I absolutely do not use it for phone calls, anytime I've had someone call me the cell quality was bad and it seems to lag between ringing and pick up, so sometimes they've hung up while I'm still seeing it ringing. This happened twice when clients were having text problems and tried to call me instead, as I don't just accept random text messages or calls at all these days.

I simply don't have a seperate work number as I need my smart phone for work not a burner and don't want to risk some troll finding out my name because they have a buddy that works as a PI or for the phone company. Interesting and thank you for your experience Charlotte. Might I ask which OS you use for your phone - IOS or Android? Just curious.

I have used Fongo for 3+ years. Business calls without issues from several local provinces, Vegas (hotel wifi) and a couple Europe trips (LTE and Wifi). I can remember occasionally push notifications not coming through like you mentioned but that was some time ago and nothing in recent memory.

Fully understand for you how important phone/text is for your business. For the gents here reading this thread our interest is in what solutions are available to us for our participation as just the client.

Cheers

Sorry for bumping, but I'm looking for good business apps or tools for business. What do you use? Any recommendations are appreciated.
What do you mean by business apps? We use Slack for communication within our company. Can you be more precise? What for do you need those apps?

While more expensive, how about an eSim for your iPhone? I've used text apps and they work fine until someone wants to call you. The eSim may be connected to your name (unless a pre-paid sim) but at some point you can delete the eSim and that's it.
