a·vail (-vl)wft is the avails? alius is blue? Is this post in code?
v. a·vailed, a·vail·ing, a·vails
v.tr.
To be of use or advantage to; help: Nothing could avail the dying patient.
v.intr.
To be of use, value, or advantage; serve: Halfway measures will no longer avail.
n.
Use, benefit, or advantage: labored to no avail.
Idiom:
It is a perfectly cromulent word. Unlike Alius which I believe to be a misspelling of Alias.
That being said, every time I see the thread title I always read it is the Anvils and think of that song from the musical Oklahoma.
"Oklahoma where the Anvils keep falling on my head".

In one episode, Tiny Toon Adventures parodied the song Raindrops Keep Fallin' on my Head replacing "Raindrops" with (what else?) anvils,
There is nothing that dropping an anvil on something doesn't solve.
